Big talk from Olson, he wanted to fight Marciano, figured he would beat Moore considering how well he did against Maxim but old Archie had a lot more left in the tank. That crafty counter right followed up by a devastating left hook basically ruined Olson's "chin", he never got up from a single knockdown for the rest of his career. Up until then, Olson was known for his resiliency. Afterwards, he was known as the guy who never gets up. Moore weighed in at 196 pounds against the 210 pound Nino Valdes a month before this fight.
Even Robinson wouldn't have contemplated taking on Marciano. Bobo's career lasted nearly a dozen years beyond Moore, something I have a hard time imagining with Rocky getting his hands on Olson. Archie may have forever compromised his chin, but 1955 Marciano may have compromised his life expectancy with a brutal beat down. The Rock was no longer taking guys out with one shot, he was systematically breaking them to pieces, like he did former MW Cockell.
There is a little a bit of an inside story in this footage that some here might not be aware of. The guy interviewing Moore in the top video is actually his manager. Moore was pissed at the time that not only was he being forced to fight Olson by this guy (which Moore considered a backwards step on the way to the HW title) but also that he had to do so at 175 which was a lot of weight to drop in such a short time. If you listen you can really since Archie's frustration and his managers defensiveness, and irritation at being called out on the situation on camera. They had a very strained relationship at this point and you can start to see that boil over a bit.
