I've read that Moore felt very bitter towards Johnson in regards to his behavior during his title reign as the first Black heavyweight champion. He stated that Johnson set back the cause of African Americans many years...Archie painfully knew about setbacks in his career, having to wait so many years for his opportunity as the number one contender.
If the 'Mongoose' was presented with a chance to fight Johnson, how would it have played out?
Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest defensive heavyweights of all time against the shifty style of Moore....Very interesting clash of styles...very cerebral match-up with these technicians, but it also would have been emotionally charged.
15 rounds for the heavyweight championship.
Could Moore possibly upset "The Galveston Giant"?

grea great fight i think jack johnson would eak it out by majority decision, because he would do more damage on the inside to moore.

What specifically did he say was the major setback? Personally I think that it was a step forward, given that he was the first black champion, who also gave both blacks and whites title shots.

Don't find that hard to believe, Johnson was hardly the most beloved man of his time.

Moore would have been a very real threat too.

Moore in my opinion was better than many of the fighters Johnson lost or struggled with. It would be a good fight that is hard to call. It could be KO either way, decision either way or draw.

I do think the old mongoose style is a good defense vs the uppercut, and Moore’s was more active on film that Johnson was, so I’d pick him to win the decision with the disclaimer that Moore doesn't get suckered into a clinchfest.

    Johnson would stop Moore.

I think all this is is - when two consumate showman meet, they are either going to be partners for life, or enemies forever.

Johnson was the right man for his times, and Moore (Eventually) the right man for his. The difference between them and their peers - why Johnson and not McVey or Langford, why Moore and not Williams or Burley? - was the same, showmanship, patter, a gift for the spotlight.

I've read the same thing he said something he put our race 30 years back or something. I would go with Moore via decision he would be more active probably the harder hitter and there wouldn't be too much weight difference since Moore was a big lightheavy.

Moore was a flamboyant character like Johnson but unlike Johnson he seems to have had a strong sense of morals.

Moore would have been something of a stylistic turd to throw at Johnson and would have given him a tough fight as a few slick boxers did.

Under post 30's rules, Moore would've very likely won a 15 round decision.

If it goes over 25 rounds or more and with smaller gloves, Johnsons chances increase exponentially.

Moore was a Big Puncher for a skilled boxer and had good stamina, I like Moore in this fight, Johnson was a great of his time but Moore fought in an era DEEEP with talent and fought the best in the upper weight classes, Johnson had power but not enough of a pessure fighter to give Archie fits, I would nor count Johnson out but Archie could hurt Johnson and could also win UD. iN REGARD TO JOHNSON SETTING BACK THE BLACKS, IT WAS DIFFERENT TIMES AND jOHNSON STUCK IT IN THE WHITE MANS FACE GOING OUT WITH wHITE WOMAN AND TALKING SMACK BUT YOU GOT TO ALSO REMEMBER THE GUY CAME FROM AN ERA WHERE BLACKS WERE ONLY FREED 20 YEARS OR SO, I GUESS HE HAD ANGER AND EXPRESSED IT OUTWARDLY, HE SUFFERED FOR IT BUT IT WAS A DIFFERENT WORLD BACK THEN, I AM NOT BLACK BUT IF I WAS I DONT KNOW HOW I WOULD REACT BECOMING HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP OF THE WORLD AND NOT GETTING RESPECT FROM ALL. JOHNSON GOT ATTENTION AND SOME OF HIS ACTIONS STILL SHOCK THE WORLD

Moore was also a nice guy.

I love Archie, he was great. And like like a lot of great, strong willed people; Archie believed in his way or no way.

I am glad Jack Johnson was the way he was. If he had been a kiss ass, thanking Whitie for allowing him to participate in the sport, he would not have meant near as much.

Johnson showed that he deserved to be in the ring with the best, that he was his own person, and that he was going to live how he wanted without apologizing for the color of his skin. What did he do that was so bad, that people of today's world still don't like him? He dated white women, drove his car fast, and smiled at the camera. Oh, he taunted his opponents. Opponents that were called "white hopes," coming to take the title from their inferior foe. Where black fans would have to listen from a distance in order to know the outcome. He did all this at a time that black people were still being lynched for being black.

I don't see any reason to dislike this man. He was courageous.

Johnson should be considered a hero.

I don't care how good his opponents were. He is still the most important champion is boxing history, easily.
