I always thought Bivins looked like he took a thumb in the eye here.

Good win for Archie, but sad they had to wait this long for Jimmy to get that elimination, when he was not at his best.

Joey Maxim made Archie fight Harold Johnson 3 times after this fight before Archie finally got a title shot on 1952-12-17 (Moore wins by UD).

Archie Moore vs. Jimmy Bivins (5th meeting)
1951-02-21 : Archie Moore 176½ lbs beat Jimmy Bivins 180½ lbs by RTD in round 9 of 10
    • Location: St. Nicholas Arena, New York, New York, USA
    • Referee: George Walsh
"Archie Moore, No. 1 light heavyweight contender, stopped Jimmy Bivins at the end of the 9th round last night when Dr. Vincent Nardiello told referee George Walsh that Bivins was unable to see out of his battered left eye. Moore dumped the 30 year old Bivins with a right uppercut just before the bell ended the 9th. The bell saved Bivins after the count reached only one. Helped to his corner Bivins was ruled 'unable to continue' by Dr. Nardiello of the NYSAC. Moore took an early lead with his slashing lefts but Bivins came back strong in the middle rounds to score with his overhand right. Both were cautious of each others punching ability from previous meetings." -Associated Press

1952-12-17 : Archie Moore 172½ lbs beat Joey Maxim 174½ lbs by UD in round 15 of 15 to win
    LtHvy title.

Moore defended the LtHeavy Title against Maxim in 1953 & 1954:
    Reference to Fight 2:
Despite winning, the Robinson fight took a heavy toll on Maxim. He lost his world title six months later to the veteran Archie Moore. Following this loss Maxim, formerly one of the division's most active fighters, fought only 14 fights in the remaining 6 years of his career. These fights included two rematches with "The Old Mongoose" Archie Moore, both of which Maxim lost. Maxim retired in 1958 after losing six consecutive fights
