That’s a good question for the former cruiser weight champ now HW champ Usyk.

 

He didn’t add that much weight he just didn’t weight drain to get to cruiser. He started at 217, 221, 227. He performed much better at 217-221 than he has been. I’m sure age is a factor. He looked terrible at his heaviest last fight. He would normally come in close to 218 on fight night no as a cruiser (could be wrong on that haven’t checked in some time)?

Usyk was 207lbs on fight night vs Michael Hunter.

Interestingly, Hunter was below 200lbs on fight night for that fight.

 

Are you not familiar with weight draining? I find that hard to believe.

Also adding functional mass is important. I don’t think it’s a non factor. I don’t think LaStarza had the frame or style where fighting HW today would be good. I do think fighters like Dempsey, Marciano, Louis, Walcott etc would be fine. Style and ability are the two most important factors for me when determining a fight. I do think some styles just wouldn’t work with the height discrepancy of today. Marciano was built to beat big men. There is a lot of functional mass he could add that it wouldn’t hinder him today. Do you think Dubois weighs 245 in 1950? Or Cleveland Williams weighs 210 in 2026? DD weighs 215-220 and prob isn’t a contender then.

I'm not certain.

I've read, as a secondary source, that Usyk was between 207-211lbs on fight night at CW.

The only primary source I recalis seeing is 207lbs fight night weight in the tale of tape just before the Hunter fight.

 

It was answered it just makes sense so you dismiss it. Your question was why did he feel the need to add weight. Your question was answered. Functional mass is perfectly fine to add and a benefit. It can be done now not like then. Of course you would add it. Take a chill pill Mac it’s all good

 

It's none of my business, but this is not a good look, shouting and borderline swearing ill befits a man of your age and standing in the forum, you have said you are done, then come back again, wouldnt it be more sensible to agree to disagree, you are both entrenched in your arguments, so what's the point of carrying this on ?

Archie Moore, while even smaller than Usyk compared to the super heavies, possessed twice the skill level of Usyk and probably hit harder.
