Rewatching the fight today the commentator stated Archie stated he was 38 for today’s fight. That and along with his tombstone and passports should put to rest this idea he was over 40 for that match.

One oddity. Commentator stated both fighters measured at 5”11 for the fight. Must have been with shoes on.

He also stated his legs were gone for the fight with Marciano, are you going to accept that too or just the quote that suits you?
Whenit was pointed out to him that his Mother said he was 3 years older than he claimed ,Archie said ,I've given this a lot of thought ,and I've decided I must have been three when I was born".

I didn’t say any of that Mcvey. 38 is old enough. I’d say both were about two years out of prime.

just posting what the man said. In his words. Was a fun fight though.

Moore’s prime is difficult to gauge because he had on and off spurts of success throughout his career.

On Moores headstone, it states he was born in December of 1916. So in September of 1955, he would be 38. But I have seen other sources that has his birth year as 1913.

If Moore was 38, that means he was half of 76 when he fought Marciano. You are 76. Coincidence??

Moore also said the ref gave Marciano extra time for the (flash) knockdown because Rocky was "the bigger man". They were pretty close in weight IIRC.

Always thought that was a terrible excuse. Marciano was down for two sec and red gave him till 4 sec when he wasn’t supposed to. I don’t think the two sec change anything, but ref did make a brief mistake which he realized rather quickly

He was pretty consistent 49-55. That six year stretch was as good as anyone’s

I heard a rumour that Moore and Liston lived on the same street as kids and that they played kick the can together with the other neighbourhood children - though don’t quote me on it.

I think his level of competition, not including Marciano and Patterson of course, declined as he got older, thus allowing him to extend his career. That along with the fact that he cherry-picked his opponents, particularly in his avoidance of agreeing to a titular rematch with Harold Johnson.

Good question Kid. Shakespeare perhaps? That old bard-stard is very quotable - alas, I am not. :D
