He fought Johnson 5 times…beat him 4. He didn’t owe the man anything. I personally think the Marciano fight ruined him a bit. His chin wasn’t the same and his work rate slowed. He could t even handle guys like Durrelle whom he prob easy handles in 53

What do you mean he couldn't handle Durelle? He knocked him cold and knocked him cold even faster in the rematch

Archie Moore was a special physical potential reached, exhausted and realised.
Such a strong mind as his can carry you very far even without legs. Moore was an exceptional fighter for different reasons at seperate junctures in time.
Perhaps the fighter Marciano beat was the smartest man to ever challenge for the heavyweight title.
To me it is entirely possible the version of Archie Moore we see on film was so adjusted for his age on such a long timeline he might’ve been unrecognisable to the special middleweight he was.
In essence he could’ve been two distinct and historic fighters. Which is an eccentric quality I think he would find amusing.
If not for a lack of film we would likely be using terms such as “Old” Moore and “Young” Moore to seperate them in fantasy discussion.

He wouldn’t have been in trouble w him is what I’m saying. Instead of a thriller it would have been just another Moore KO earlier

That was Archie's argument. Archie defeated Johnson when Archie was in his prime light heavyweight years and Johnson was still improving. I agree that Marciano, and Patterson also, contributed to Moore's ruin. During this time, Harold was developing into an even better fighter. By the time 1957 rolled around, it should have been a whole new ball game. Johnson was the best contender and deserved another shot. Eventually the NBA agreed with this scenario and justifiably stripped Moore of the title.

I just looked at my wife’s Ancestry dot com account and unless he lied to them at a young age or his parents lied for some reason the 1920 and 1930 Censuses confirm 1916.

My wife is into genealogy so we had Ancestry first. We got Newspapers later (you get it at a discount if you subscribe to Ancestry).

I'm aware. I'm also into genealogy but find ancestry's very inaccurate. 23andme is much much better imo.

Marciano was down for a count of 4 ,he said he blacked out for a few seconds, thats not a flash KD .When he got up the referee got between them preventing Moore from attacking Rocky, Marciano then went towards the ropes expecting a standing 8 count which was waived for championship fights. Moore said nothing about Marciano being the bigger man,he said the referee by his actions impeded him from going after Marciano when he was a legitimate target, and film of the fight confirms this.CLASSIC! I believe the whole Moore referee got in the way story is complete bull **** and was exposed as such. His excuse for not being able to follow it up was because he wasn't warmed up yet.

He said nothing for 30 years about it and suddenly thrust it out there? I'd be both interested and shocked if anyone can find a contemporary account of Moore making the claim. I don't believe one will be found.

    Moore tried to rewrite history.

Yes the referee getting between him and Marciano was only for a fleeting moment.Moore blew it out of all proportion.

She does that too. She is slowly transferring her family tree stuff there.
