I think Tunney showed that if you caught Dempsey right, he could be hurt by a fighter of only moderate power at heavyweight. Moore was probably more powerful than Tunney and probably better at kidding his man onto a punch in these circumstances. Marciano saw Moore off, but Marciano was an absolutle nightmare for that version of Moore, who was old. Still, he was competitve in the fight until Rocky's superior workrate (and other factors, ofcourse) saw him outgunned.

What about Dempsey? Demspey was possibly more aggressive and probably more overcommited generally, early...could Moore use these facts to dominate Dempsey early then outbox him late?

    Or even stop him early?

Your opinion, how do you rate Archie's chances? Use any version of Moore you like, but stick with Toledo Dempsey.

1st round, Archie lands his right hand hard on the side of Dempsey's head, Dempsey goes down, Dempsey gets up, Dempsey KO's Archie in the next round. Or maybe the round after that. Or maybe the 7th round. I'll go with the 7th. Maybe the 5th.

This is not the mismatch some might find..IMO! In watching Moore vs marciano for example...Moore held his own especially winning some rds early on. When he used his jab, he was actually controlling Rock a different points (No, I am not comparing marciano to Dempsey style wise). When he went away from the jab, Rock would work him over inside and wear him down. For me the question to answer is did Moore go away from a jab that was working very effectively...or Did Marciano's relentless pressure take the jab away from him??? I am still not certain (But think if he worked his jab more consistantly, he may have a win against Rock on his resume). So can he out box Dempsey...Quite possibly....Can he use his jab to keep dempsey off of him??? Not sure.

I lean towards a competitive fight with dempsey taking him out late, because he either stopped jabbing or Dempsey got around it,

I can't imagine anyone calling this a mismatch. Archie was an incredible P4P fighter and not much smaller than Dempsey. I think Archie would floor Dempsey, but not stop him. Dempsey would get up and then take Archie out within the next 2-5 rounds.

That might be the most succinct round-up i've ever seen of a fantasy fight. If it went otherwise i'd be surprised.

But Moore could finish. If it goes exactly like this history would turn on the 40 seconds following the knock down.
