I'd perhaps favor Hagler at middleweight. Moore was at his best at light heavyweight

Remember a lot of Moore's prime was spent at middleweight and he fought the murderers row. His LHW career started in his 30s.

Hagler by decision, Archie was a great middleweight but I don’t see any evidence that shows how he wins against a middleweight at such a high level

If Archie were to fight “Philadelphia” Marvin Hagler — the one who had mixed success (and got robbed at least once) in Philly — during his pre-championship years, I’d favor Moore.

Same if this is light heavyweight Moore vs. any version of Marvin.

But as stipulated, Marvin via decision.

Hagler never fought anyone like Archie Moore. The experience that Moore acquired- even if you only look at his competition at or around middleweight- is insane. And Hagler was troubled greatly by the craft of Duran.
Archie was every bit as crafty as Duran, and was a bigger man and a harder puncher; he was a good puncher even against heavyweights.
You have to be careful with Marvin. He was a very good fighter but he was never ever an invincible juggernaut.

Moore has wins over Jack Chase, Lloyd Marshall, Holman Williams, Cocoa Kid, Shorty Hogue and Bert Lytell. That's far more impressive than Hagler's MW resume. Hagler struggled with WW's like Leonard, Hearns and Antufuermo and almost lost to past-prime Duran. Let's put things into perspective.

True. And it also took a while before Archie found his groove

Struggled with Hearns? Interesting viewpoint. As much as I admired Duran's performance against Marvin, the judges did flatter him a bit. My own score by rounds is 9-5-1 Hagler.
Hagler did take his foot off the gas when he should n't have in the Antuofermo fight but Marvin should still have been given a clear verdict in that one.
    Leonard-Hagler was a close one.

The Hearns fight wasn't exactly one-sided.
I do suspect that there was some flattery in the Duran scorecard but it doesn't change the fact that the fight was closer than it should've been, given Hagler's weight advantage and comparative youth.

Hagler-Hearns is rightly touted as one of the all time great fights but after that breathtaking first round the writing was on the wall.

The only real drama and hope for Hearns after the first round was the fight being stopped for the nasty cut in Haglers fore head.
But as you wrote, the writing was on the wall after the first round.
Personally the fight is a little overrated in my opinion.
