I believe that Conn would outbox Moore for most of the fight, but Moore would eventually set a trap and catch Conn around the 8th round. Moore by ko
Very difficult fight to call. I think a round 8 KO for Moore is not likely, Conn had an iron chin, was maybe the definitive master at controlling range and was durable. Moore, the KO king, the master craftsman.... It's possible this is the most educated duel that could be made in all of the sport! I'll hazard a guess that under the modern system of scoring, Moore shades a decision based upon the single KD he scores late in the fight. The decision is not popular. But anything could happen.
Moore had 25 fights weighing under 160 ,Conn had 38,Conn is more the natural middleweight ,in fact he only weighed 169 when he fought Louis the first time ,though it was given as 174 .Moore was only stopped twice while scaling under170,both times to good punchers, Eddie Booker by tko in 8 when he weighed 1601/2 and was conceding 5 1/2 pounds, and by Jimmy Bivins by ko in6 when he was 166 pounds ,giving Bivins 20 pounds.
huh? moore was a HUGE lightheavyweight. moore naturally weighed over 200lb in the early 1950s he had to cut huge amounts of weight in short amounts of time to make the limit. he cut extreme amounts of weight, an oversized 175lber.
That would be a very tactical fight, boring for some. Conn would outbox Moore for the first thrid of the fight but Moore adjusts, set traps and turns the tide with a KD around round 6. After that round Conn get´s even more wary of Moore´s power and craftyness but also too passive to take the fight. In the beginning of the 14th round Moore scores another KD and hurts Conn, Moore traps him on the ropes and the ref steps in to end the fight. Moore TKO14 Conn.
Suzie ,you might want to look at this guy's other posts before geting too involved . Why waste your time ,is my reasoning?
People forget how skilled Conn was. He has a serious shot of pulling a decision over here. Remember this is the same man that outboxed Louis for 12 rds and had he not gotten over confident he could have won that
I'll pick Moore, on points that is, great one it could be, Conn setting a high tempo, but Archie's stiff jab and crafty but subtle movement setting up big straight shots, the infighting will come, Conn getting the better at times with the speed, but Archie inevitably doing some telling work. Could go either way in all honesty, but youve gotta make a pick in these threads and mine's Moore.
Conn was stopped 3 times once ,in his third fight by tko,I have no info on that ,but the other fights are general knowledge,Conn gets taken out in a fight he was winning ,leading on the cards after 12 rds ,he goes in to trade with the "Bomber",bad move,in the return,Conn was finished, heavier ,he had lost his speed and zip, Louis still had his punch,if Archie beats him as well he might he does it by dec, imo.Actually I think I will go for the "Pittsburgh Kid "on points.
