Close fight that could go either way. Moore could edge this one out. Maybe.

Now if it were Charles and Quarry....

First of all, in those days it was common for light heavies to fight at both heavyweight and light heavyweight seeing as heavyweight began at 176 lbs back then. Is a 185 or 195 lb heavyweight just a towering giant over a 175 lbs light heavyweight moving up?

Have you ever heard of Harold Johnson and Eddie Machen? No? Well, in 1961, Harold Johnson was the reigning light heavyweight champion who also fought at heavyweight. And who else would he fight at heavyweight but a prime Eddie Machen?

You remember Eddie Machen, don't you? The one who as a past his best fighter beat Jerry Quarry.

Well, Harold Johnson weighing 181 lbs beat the prime version of future Quarry conqueror Eddie Machen via decision. See here

What does this have to do with Archie Moore, you ask? Good question!

Archie Moore, although they fought at LHW, stopped Harold Johnson at least twice. Moore was the meddling party pooper who stood in the way of Harold Johnson not becoming light heavyweight champion sooner. See here

And so it is indeed realistic and not far fetched to think that Moore might hace beaten Jerry Quarry, who was about 195 pounds, he wasn't some 6'6 245 lb giant like Lennox Lewis.

Greetings mcvey. But Earnie had fought, basically, no top flight fighter in those 47, at least no one in their prime. Stander, of all people, stopped him.
