The physical technicality never ceases to hypnotize me, and Archie is just an old mongoose with his bag of tricks, skills, and stratagems (and mongooses are in a business where you die rather young.) The up-close camera view really enhances the nuance and sheer athleticism of both men. Especially the fluid shift to inside fighting. Great ref work as well. So much more appealing than the 1-2 clinch. I think the closer point of recording would do wonder when it comes to folks' appraisal of classic fighters. This content is protected
Bivins was a very good fighter but Moore was a great fighter. Slick defensive moves, very relaxed, quick, snappy blows. Moore was 4-1 against Bivins after this bout. Was that a head butt? Possibly a short right but with his back to the camera I didn’t see it.
Remind me please would ya? is this the one where the lady (person?) keeps screaming JIMMY! In the background and it looks like Moore throws him to the ground for the stoppage? I don’t remember this fight being anything brilliant (respectfully) a work man sort of bout, Archie just doing his thing against a guy he knew too well.
Yeah the knockout was strange but if you pay close attention, it makes sense. Bivins had an aneurysm after the harpy in the front row shrieked his name a dozen times.
Heavyweight unification here...Bivins' Interim heavyweight championship for the war years against Moore's "Nevada State World Champsionship."
High level stuff going on here. Archie's upjab is a weapon to behold and he times that right lead with such precision and such snap. So much to comment on here.
After the first, Moore gives a masters class on keeping your head offline, even when putting it between the shoulders of your opponent, which is all muscle memory from thousands of rounds combined with fighting intellect. Also, dude is feinting with every appendage and part of his body. I thought I saw a neck feint in there. Unreal level of skill exhibited against a top level opponent.
