Has anyone seen either of their two fights? I have seen pictures of the two of them in the ring together and Archie looks to be about half the size of Nino.Yet Moore was able to gain two decisions over the Cuban.That he could step up in weight and defeat heavyweight contenders always amazed me. Although I know I should mention Michael Spinks,Roy Jones,Harold Johnson and Billy Conn as well for their ability to do the same.
When Archie came to Vegas to meet Valdez at the old Cashman field centre Johnny Tocco made the trip to the desert for the event.. Tocco loved Las Vegas the second he laid his eyes on it.. After the event the St Louis Trainer had spotted some land on Charleston blvd and Commercial road.. just off main street.. Toccos Gym has been there ever since.. Tyson, Liston, Holmes, Ali, Spinks, Hagler , Leonard and everyone i can think of trained at Toccos until today.. The gym is still there today and is very active .. Who knows if Nino v Archie was in any other city.. Johnnys gym may never have been built.....
I have new york times articles on Moore vs Valdez. unfortunetly neither fight was filmed. Moore outboxed and actually outworked him both times. Valdez's jab gave him problems in the 2nd fight.
