Well in the case of Alejandro Levorante, Moore was about 47 years old and went 10 rounds to stop him. Levorante was 6’4” well over 200 lbs with a 19-2-0-15 record and a knockout win over Zora Folley. Nino Valdez was another big hard hitting heavy who granted was inconsistent. But when Moore beat him the second time, Valdez was a number 1 ranked contender on a pretty good win streak.
Does anyone really think Mercer gets himself in top shape to face a former LH? He wouldn't even be in reasonable shape and the conditioning would simply not be there. Way too much savvy in the other corner to come in looking for an easy nights work.
And relevant to Moore here, I seem to remember an aging slicker type who came along and did just that.
I think that was mainly because he had the chin to survive when he screwed up. There were multiple shots Lewis landed during that fight that would have dropped or stopped most fighters. Mercer did look good there, but he made multiple mistakes that would have been fatal to just about anybody else. Also, Lewis was trying for a KO. He could have approached that fight differently and more effectively.
Yes. This is a reasonable answer. In theory Mercer has the power to score a knockout win but the odds shouldn’t be in his favor. The void between the skill levels is colossal
