Moore was still better than OK I think, but he did have a lot of weird **** in his personal life in the run up to that fight.

Not saying that is definitive or even definitely relevant, but it's there.

Either way, I'd go back a lot of years for the version of Moore I'd want for Jones.

Jones out-speeds and out-boxes Moore for about 6 or 7 rounds. Moore takes command in the middle rounds and stops Jones about 10 or 11. This, the prime Archie who was denied the LW championship for years. The version that fought Durelle would likely do the same thing, it just depends whether Jones falls for a trap right hand. Archie might have to give away a couple of rounds in order to set up Jones for a KO shot. The key is swaying Jones to get careless and drop his hand overconfidently.

Regardless that it was an old version of Moore, he had all the experience he wanted, all the tricks in the world; younger Moore would look just as slow against almost prime Jones as an older version looked against Patterson, same inability to execute those tricks due to speed difference, always being a second too late with every punch. Landing the left hook the way Paterson did in that fight was Jones' speciality too.

Yeah? I'd take Bob Foster. Height and power are massive advantages to hold over a fighter like Jones. Factor in Foster's above average speed and jab and he's made for the job.

Moore was probably as quick as Foster, roughly, and hit nearly as hard. But it's that height and long jab he's lacking.

moore definitely has the tools to beat jones but most point to jones' chin as why. jones was over 35 when his 4 knockouts happened. moore fought way more in his career but was stopped 7 times, 4 of those in what would be considered his prime. maybe we should be asking if moore could survive jones?

Moore was great, greater than Roy, but he doesnt beat him. Moore was brilliant against conventional fighters, but Roys awkwardness, speed, timing, reflexes, would have had More trying to find something that worked but I think he would have little sucess. I think Roy would win a near shutout.

I agree. It never stops amazing me that because Roy was KOd at 35+, that all of a sudden he count take a punch for the 25+ years he was boxing before that. He didnt age well as a fighter, it happens to a lot of fighters. But in his prime, if you banked on him not having a chin as why you would beat him, you would probably get knocked out. Nobody ever questions Moores chin or Ezzard Charles chin, and they were kod more than Rpy I believe.

My only doubt with Moore is his own resistance to Jones power, as Moore could be taken out and a fighter with Jones speed and power could overwhelm any fighter of Moore's sturdiness IMO.

Genuine 50/50. Both have each other's kryptonite stylistically; jones is up against an expert trapsmith with 1 punch power whilst moore is up against an ultra fast superior athlete.

I think jones will win the majority of rounds but moore has an even chance of knocking him out with any punch he throws.

I'd call it a draw in terms of h2h as I can't honestly pick a winner.

This one is sooo tough for me to call. Moore was a masterbaiter, and Jones might just take it right on the chin.

Jones would trouble him in the first half of the fight but then the difference between a top range fighter and a great of the ring, become apparent. Ol' Mongoose catches Jones by about round 12 and sends him into orbit

Moore fought Marciano and took a lot of shots. Roy's shots would be like girly slaps to him.
