Archie Moore vs Sonny Liston

Whitehurst was outside the ring trying to get back in in the last round of the second Liston fight the final bell saved him from the ko.

 

If Floyd Patterson can KO Moore in 5 then it's reasonable to believe Liston would do the same.

 

Moore wasn’t at his best against Patterson but the result would still stand against Moore at his best

I disagree, Moore bounched back from his brutal beating by Marciano with a nice series of wins but he was still a little worn & the youth of Floyd & the speed got to Archie before Archie could touch that chin, in a different time it could have turned out different

 

we know that but Sonny still could not record a KO against Whitehurst in 2 fights while Archie recorded 2 for 2 KO's

 

I don’t think any reasonable extrapolation could be made from Archie’s performance against Patterson.
42-year-old more was dealing with and extortion plug by a former lover claiming that Moore had raped her daughter. MOORE commented after the fight that it was his sorriest loss as a result.

 

No Archie was not physically or mentally at his best against Patterson and his body looked soft on film. He did not have the same training camp due to a personal situation

 

Absolutely Moore did not bring his best that night and did not have a good training camp. His midsection looked soft that night. He wasn’t into it mentally. Patterson brought his best

Let’s go over the facts from the fight

Moore knocked out whitehurst but not before he was behind on 2 of the 3 scorecards and needed a knockout in the final round to win the fight

Liston won every round on all 3 cards and whitehurst spent the end of the fight through the ropes where the bell saved him. Under today’s rules it’s a knockout

Sonny didnt get the KO 2X under the rules of the day Archie did 2X, I already stated I picked Sonny in a fight but Archie was light years ahead of Sonny with tecnique & craft & could bang pretty good for a small heavyweight. Do you disagree?

 

I agree Archie was soft in that fight & did not look anything like himself but I was unaware of a personal situation, makes sense

 

That's true of Moore .Guy took his lumps and more against Marciano. But against a bloke like Sonny he'd just getting smashed and More efficiently.
