Archie is the well known ATG...…….Fox is a bit of a forgotten man. But fox had some terrific wins over guys like al gainer, Jersey Joe Walcott, maxie rosenbloom etc. he was recognized as one of the greatest Punchers of all time, but like archie as a black fighter in the 30´s and 40´s didnt get many opportunities. he got one shot vs the competent melio Bettina which he lost......but he had been stabbed below the heart(!!!!!) just 2 months Prior, so it´s not really a true reflection of his abilities. as for archie, …….we all know archie so i dont really have to comment on him. Bottom line: archie is recognized as perhaps the greatest light Heavyweight of all time, so he is the obvious favorite here. but (as we all know) Boxing doesnt work that way cause styles make fights. and something About foxes syle and power kinda has me thinking upset here. opinions??
I’d favor a tiger over a mongoose in a fight in the wild so maybe that’s the way to go in picking this. But a mongoose beats a cobra and probably any form of snake.
It would be a very careful, strategic fight, like Moore's contests against Jack Chase, Eddie Booker, Lloyd Marshall, Bert Lytell, and Harold Johnson. I've read up quite a bit on Fox. My take is he had a style similar to Lloyd Marshall, a hands-down, deceptive, lumbering style, calculated to draw leads while he patiently waited for his chances so he could counter and lower the boom. Some of his fights could be quite boring if his opponent never bit on Fox's enticements. Moore would be aware of this and would be careful to avoid the big one while piling up an edge in points. I look for a cat-and-mouse type of fight with the cat never quite catching the mouse, but for fans who like that type of strategic posturing, still very tense and interesting. Not so much for fans that demand a lot of all-out action. I think a good match-up would have been the older TJF against the older Lloyd Marshall. It wouldn't have lasted long, but it would have been fun to watch while it lasted.
