Tiger Ted Lowry- Emanuel Agustus of his day
Frank Buford- Californian champ, Underated Black heavyweight of his day. very very spotty record but ring magazine in their 1952 issue actually proclaied Buford's talent A level among heavyweight division and rated him near the cream of the crop

Alot of people complain about marciano not beating the younger bigger heavyweights of his day, but archie moore did it for him it appears.

How good is this win resume compared to other heavyweight contenders throughout history. I would say its rather good.

Moore was definitely a very good heavyweight. He seemed to ride the line between #1 contender and champion - a 'nearly' man at that weight.

I agree. He seemed to have a style to deal with the big men very well. do you agree or was it just perhaps his era?

Well I think Moore would have been a champion in the late twenties and early thirties. He may have swapped the title a couple of times with Max Schmeling.

Can't speak for M, but it was the era in my opinion.

Archie Moore has an excellent record at heavyweight.
He's arguably among the top 20 heavyweights of all time.

He beat plenty of top HWs, lost only to Marciano, Patterson and Clay at that weight.
He knocked ou some cagey guys and some very big men.

    All the ones SuzieQ mentioned.

    Fighters like Howard King,
Willi Besmanoff and Bert Whitehurst were respectable journeyman too. Moore consistently fought and beat them.

Tiny HWs who weren't that much larger than the Mongoose... doesn't say much for Moore really.

Didn't Moore knock out someone who went the distance with Liston?

Bert Whitehurst went the distance with Liston twice. Moore knocked out the same man - twice.
