How good is this win resume compared to other heavyweight contenders throughout history. I would say its rather good.
Moore was definitely a very good heavyweight. He seemed to ride the line between #1 contender and champion - a 'nearly' man at that weight.
I agree. He seemed to have a style to deal with the big men very well. do you agree or was it just perhaps his era?
Well I think Moore would have been a champion in the late twenties and early thirties. He may have swapped the title a couple of times with Max Schmeling.
Archie Moore has an excellent record at heavyweight. He's arguably among the top 20 heavyweights of all time. He beat plenty of top HWs, lost only to Marciano, Patterson and Clay at that weight. He knocked ou some cagey guys and some very big men. All the ones SuzieQ mentioned. Fighters like Howard King, Willi Besmanoff and Bert Whitehurst were respectable journeyman too. Moore consistently fought and beat them.
