Never seen anything to indicate Moore was robbed in the 2nd fight. He took a down in the 7th too. In fact i've read that Moore was significantly hurt to the body in this fight and barely survived.

I think he was never any beter than he was in 1952 but moore was often as good up to 1955. the bobo olson win was good and later against yolande pompey archie was still a prety good fighter.

Your argument is interesting -you are holding that his experience is what made this particular fighter great, while I see a combination of both that sees this fighter as well as perhaps everyone else at their most formidable. I'd be interested to know if you agree that generally speaking, fighters peak when the trajectory of their athleticism and experience are closest.

Archie looks very formidable in the early or mid 50s, but I kind of doubt he'd agree with you that he wasn't past prime by the time he faced Maxim for the title. The other problem is that there is no film of him facing Chase or Marshall for example. So whatever we're seeing isn't proof that he peaked or primed late, it could just as easily give us an idea of the greatness he was able to hold on to due to his "relaxology" techniques and smarts.

I'd submit that Moore was not 'still developing' when he had those 18 fights with the Row. He had over 70 fights by the time he fought Burley. Consider also that he faced lesser men in the 50s and didn't need to be at full power because Archie's full power was something very special -he just had the tough luck to have to face really rough guys out of the a really rough era.

I agree Ezzard was a better fighter but Ezzard was never Light heavyweight champ therefore IMO Archie qualify s as top 3 champs at 175...Ezzard to me was a quality heavyweight

I posted this as a Kibitz. Of course the Old Mongoose was pre prime but here's some evidence the fighter who administered a boxing lesson was past his best by then also.
