I doubt that, I think Archie was a bit too sophisticated in his trash-talking to resemble Ali. They just had different styles.

On a side note, Suzie Q is adamant about John Henry Lewis being underrated among LHWs. Looks like he has a better claim with Archie thinking Lewis is right up their with him as far as LHWs go.

Sometimes he said Eddie Booker and Charlie Burley were the two best I fought.
Hatchetman was always the hardest puncher.

So Moore rates Lewis above Charles right?

Saddler was a physcial beast but technically not great, imagine Saddler with a fast rangy jab and 1-2 combined with an Archie-esque craftyness

But Moore never fought Lewis :huh

    This was the quote

He was strictly talking "best" as with Ali, SRR, Williams and the rest. He went pretty much division by division picking out the best fighters he'd seen.

I can only assume for whatever reason he chooses Lewis above Charles. I've got an article somewhere and Futch rates Lewis as the best or second best 175 he ever saw.

    :lol::lol:

    Milk actually makes me puke.

I got it very cheap on ebay a fiver at most.

    No problem.

Yeh, the writing style is very 'Archie Moore' - sophisticated, confident and witty.

You obviously have not heard of Charlie Brady.

It is a recipe for disaster, could you imagine Saddler getting up and boxing? I know we have footage of him boxing but he is still pretty poor at it.

Yeh and a few other things. Quite a bizzare diet.

    Agreed. Very overlooked it seems.

Does not mention this in the book.

    Apparently so, yes.

    Thing is, I can't.

Nope, can't even remember his name being mentioned.

Too slow, not enough natural ability? Had he implemented the time to improve his out-fighting and use range I'm sure his skills would come along and maybe he could've been better. Who knows really, I think Archie knows what he's talking about though.

Is it possible Archie had a dislike for Ez?

Just his physical attributes. I just couldn't imagine Saddler being a boxer.

I honestly don't have a clue. How could anyone not like Ezzard Charles?
