True. Americans would rather watch Toney-Oquendo (or whatever his name is).

And Americans never do this with old ancient names invited over to get beaten by the local hero.... ahhhem...Lacy-Reid... ahem...Lacy-Pemberton... ahhemm... Dawson-Tarver... ahhemmm.... and so on.

I am unaware of any Americans who watched Tony/Oquendo (besides a few I assume exist on this website).. Those other fights I mentioned were on major TV stations in Europe and had capacity crowds.

imo except for a few fights, Europeans are just taking their babysteps when it comes to major boxing events in their back yard. American fans are tried and tested.

Thats why the continental Euros' standards aren't as high.

I'm Canadian so take my opinion for what its worth (nothing lol)

Kinda true but its also the way the events are put on , look at the crowd at ( particularly ) a Klitschko fight , its not really a boxing crowd. They've turned the whole thing into bigger event by making it all about their man rather than the quality of the fight , thus so as long as a Klit ( or to a lesser extent ) Valuev wins then everyone cheers themselves daft and has an all round top time.

I don't want to cause offense here and this is just a generalisation. Im not saying all fans are like this...but it does appear alot more American fans expect action packed brawls more and more these days.

Some American fans appear to have lost the ability to appreciate the finer, more technical aspects of the sport. Only in America can a supreme talent like Floyd Mayweather Jr get booed out of a ring.

Some fans even go as far as to call fighter's pussys if a fighter ever takes a backwards step in the ring (although you could also accuse some Mexican fans of this as well).

Klitschko - Rahman wasn't edge of your seat excitment (mainly due to the American Rahman only turning up in body and not spirit to fight) but it wasn't a snooze fest in my eyes. Seeing another man dominate someone with just a jab can bring appreciation from certain fans if you are into that kind of thing. Yes i would have liked Wlad to take a bit more of a risk and let that big right hand go more but even though he didn't it was still an ok fight to watch...relatively speaking of course. The HW division is rather dull these days.

It could also be a cultural thing. I didn't see the holyfiled - Valuev fight but from what i have heard even the most hardcore of fan wouldn't have been able to enjoy it so perhaps the crowd didn't boo them out of the stadium because they thought it would be rude.
