    Chasing a chicken seems to be a good way of quickening your feet,and punching half a cow would be a good alternative to the heavy bag

    Sylvester Stallone was never a boxer. He was a weight lifter. I don't think any of his training was accurate except for the push ups, sit ups, and jogging. The stuff was made for Hollywood. It's supposed to be odd and a spectacle. Punching sides of beef is basically the same as punching a heavybag, but more visually appealing.

    I thought the punching-the-side-of-beef thing came from Joe Frazier: not that he did it all the time, but that he had done it at some point (maybe as a publicity stunt?) and that's where Stallone got the idea.

    The drinking raw eggs thing went out of vogue when fighters started drinking their own urine instead .... because that's so much more Hollywood.

    I think some boxers do the running up steps thing.

    ]

    The only excercises I know that were actually used in gyms
    was of course

    The over and under
    Jump rope
    Jogging

    Now tree chopping was soemthingbi heard guys do neber actually seen it done inpreperation for a fight.

    I heard stories about some of these training methods

    I remember seeing footage of foreman runninh uo a hil with pick up tide to his back. I wonder how much of the rocky training was fact and how much of it wasficfiction.

    It seems like tree chopping would be similar to hitting a tire with a sledgehammer. I've seen two fighters do the sledge/tire thing on film: Pavlik and Fedor and have heard of other boxers doing this.
