Are bad habits really that bad to have?

I want to train with the match group but my trainer says I still have too many bad habits.

My biggest ones are leaning forward when I throw a straight and not bending down enough (I really don't find this comfortable and find a standing straight stance much more comfortable)

Most bad habits I had were polished away by sparring but as weird as it may sound I never got punished for leaning forward since I'm already way out of their reach by the time they get to counter and I actually feel like I give my opponent a false sense of oppurtinity when I lean forward

Then why would they be called bad habits if they aren't bad to have?

Yes. Eventually you'll meet someone aggressive, lucky, or smart enough to take advantage and catch you on your mistake, and you won't be able to do anything about it because you'll have engrained it into your muscle memory. If you have a bad habit, fix it. Breaking the rules once you've mastered them is one thing, but neglecting to correct your technique will lead to other problems and inhibit your progress significantly.

he's probably going easy on you since those are fairly common and easy correctable "bad habits". I'm sure there are many others he could point out if needed...

3 weeks from now: "I got knocked out by a counter right uppercut. Is that bad?"

I LOOOOOOOVE bad habits, i love it when someone leans forward, i really love it when they get so use to leaning forward that they lean when covering up with a weak jab BOOM hello big right uppercut to the face now say hello to the canvas.

on a serious note get that **** sorted, dont lean, my coach always says if your not finding it comfortable then your doing it right!
