Almost true. Max wasn't a bum but he wasn't "all that" either. He was a decent fighter in a weak era. Joe LOuis was a great fighter in a weak era.

Wlad throws some of the best straight punches ever, including the jab, of which he has an ATG version.

He KO'd Austin with one hand, the left hook, without even throwing the right.

He threw many uppercuts against Thompson, who had a tendency to lean in so it called for it.

Footwork is about maintaining distance and the proper ANGLE to throw your best punches. It's also about keeping your yourself moving so you don't create a sitting target for your opponent. Wlad is quite "fleet of foot" and he moves around very well.

 

Let me add that uppercuts are best used when infighting & that's clearly not Wlad's game.

 

Yeah they are both very overrated, Vitali has done nothing to be considered an ATG, and Wlad nuthuggers were falling all over themselves after Wlad beat a very faded Chageiv who was mediocre to begin with.

Yes they are very over rated. I don´t rate them high at all. They shouldn´t be mentioned in the same room as Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Frazier, Marciano etc, etc.
