or is it just a crappy division? I've heard people on both sides of the fence on this and wanted to see what the forums opinion was and why they think it's underrated or crappy.

I think it's underrated. The only network they can really get on seems to be ESPN and even though Adamek and Cunningham were a fight of the year candidate no network wanted to pick up a rematch. I think some of the problem with the cruiserweight division's lack on attention stateside is that it's more or less dominated by Europeans and the few American's that are good cruisers are either too inactive (Cunningham) and/or challenging inferior competition (Flores).

    What are your opinions?

Yea to me they are.... because heavy now is super heavy. Some guys have more discipline than most.... The Klitschko brothers keep their bodies well tuned for any athlete, yet alone heavies, they are the exception to the rule.. Most of todays cruisers would be yesterdays heavies..

At some point in time they were, but not now. A Cruiserweight division that still had Haye and Adamek would be alot better than what we've got now. Not enough fights are happening to sort through their leftovers, and the only guy who's been active at the top is probably the most flawed.

Today, the division's mediocre to average because the top end talent's just not there (and that's always been the problem with the division because the top end fighters usually just move up to Heavy) and there's too much inactivity. It's not terrible, but not one I'd consider pretty good or better. I'm in the minority in that I think the talent's better at Heavyweight, personally.

I don't think it's that bad. Huck, Cunningham, Ofalabi, Flores, Erdei, and Ledebev are good, solid professionals. It's just that none of them have that PBF, Pacquiao, Tyson, Tua, RJJ or even Valero flair or touch. In order for a division to be considered "hot", just having well-schooled, solid boxers isn't good enough.

To be superstars and make a division "hot", fighters of today need to have a very explosive, fan-friendly style and/or a flamboyant personality. Haye was good in these regards but he got stopped by a journeyman, and he has of course abandoned the division. On the flip side, look at Chad Dawson at LHW. He's a great undefeated fighter with undeniable skills, yet the casual fan really coundln't care less when or who he fights. It's no accident that LHW and cruiser are considered to be "dull" divisions.

Unfortunately, they're not underrated... they're irrelevant.

It's one of the best division out there even without Haye and Adamek. Very deep, 10-15 fighters on a very similar level. It's better than hw, lhw, mw, jmw, lw, sfw and most of the lower weightclasses. Not as good at the top level as smw, ww, and jww at the moment though.

    Not at the moment.

But Toney, Haye, Gomez, Jirov, and Mormeck have all been there in the past seven years - all excellent fighters at that weight. Adamek and Cunningham aren't too shoddy either, though I feel that the former is waaaaaaay overrated on this site.
