Cruiserweight produce talents and may them leave. So its underrated if fighters who are suited for this division have to fight somewehere else to earn big money. If you put together all the fighters who can make 200 pounds limit, then it would be one of the most interesting division in boxing now.
It was getting prety loaded years back and had many world class competitors in it, but at the moment those great fighters have almost all moved on so it's a bit of an abondoned desert right now. One great, sustained era of cruiserwights would put the division on the map, but who knows when that's ever gonna happen because for great fighters it's always been just a detour stop on their way to the heavyweight division.
It gets ignored by casual fans, so theres no reason for successful cruisers to hang around. It shouldn't make any difference, but I think the name does affect it.
Its got a terrible name, and in all honesty the average man in the street wouldnt have a clue what weight division it is. Then again if the likes of smaller heavyweights like Haye, Adamek, Gomez, Ibragamov, etc moved back down, it could definiely give it a shot in the arm.
To me cruiser is one of those divisions that on paper looks so good. It's basically the heavyweights of the past. It's big guys who stay in shape are fast and can move and hit. It really just doesn't carry any appeal. IDK if its lack of a superstar or wat but it has the potential to be a very good division.
To follow up on my last post, the division would be helped immensely if there were actually fights happening there. There's been far too much inactivity and good fights just don't happen there with much regularity. Cunningham-Godfrey is a good start, but it's also only Steve's second fight since the Adamek fight, and that was in 2008. Guillermo Jones is more likely to be seen on a carton of milk than in a boxing ring, it's been 2 years since he fought. Flores is pretty good, but doesn't really need boxing so he doesn't fight much, either. And the list goes on. There's a couple other guys who are good for 2-3 fights a year, and Huck in particular is a big exception to the prior names I mentioned. Since Huck and Cunningham fought in 2007, Steve Cunningham's fought 2 fights. Huck's fought 8 times. Without the fights happening, the division's never going to get any sustained momentum.
Plus Wlodarczyk Drozd Alekseev Ramirez Fragomeni Ross It's a solid division, people are just stupid and repeat what they hear others say despite not knowing themselves. Even when they were there though nobody gave a ****, nobody would even put up money for a Adamek-Cun rematch. It's a good division
So you are saying since the entire division sucks that is good because since everyone sucks nobody can be a dominant force in the division. That doesn't make it the best division out there, btw.
