I was thinking in the wake of HBO not having nothing to do with Rigodeaux basically for being too good (yes we all know he isnt Gatti in terms of excitement) but also Lara can't seem to go anywhere near Alvarez, and he beat Trout better than Alvarez did and hes still being jammed also what about Abril guy basically gave Rios a boxing lesson and you never see him near HBO or Shotime. So my question is Are Cuban fighters being dismissed for simply being too good? I mean you got promoters that won't even try to make them fight in Florida and see what they do Thoughts?

If I were Golden Boy. I wouldn't let Alvarez get near Lara. He's going to lose and everyone knows it. In fact, I think Angulo is going to tear him a new one.

Rigo is just too boring. HBO would show Rigo, just not as the main event. He's not big enough a draw as a main event fighter, but they will show his fights if he was on an undercard.

Good fighters get frozen out all the time. GGG got frozen for years before he got a chance to shine.

In all seriousness, a lot of Cubans got jammed by partying and buffet lines. They have so much potential, but couldn't control themselves. Guys like Rigo and Lara are the exception.

I hear what yall saying but come on Rigodeaux is argubally a top 3-5 p4p guy and to not even have him on a triple header is very sad if I'm Rigo I would want out of my contract

No. It has nothing to do with them being Cuban. It has to do with a style that casual fans don't care/understand and also the fact that many don't speak english. If Rigo learned english and got a personality going he could probably sell.

Fair or not, it's always tougher for certain groups of fighters to get the financial backing for the biggest fights. It's not a black/white thing, but more of a "which groups do the networks believe will have U.S. fans willing to pay to watch them fight" thing. Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, and straight up U.S. fighters will get more financial backing than Cubans, by and large, because of that.

Even exciting foreign fighters like Golovkin, Martinez, Pirog, etc. paid the price by not getting breaks until they were older and not getting the same financial backing. Being considered as being part of a fringe group in U.S. boxing (Show me how many other Kazakh or Argentine fighters have gotten A-side support here) usually means you've got to prove yourself twice as much as a prospect with a more favorable demographic.

They'll get featured because they come at a bargain price themselves given their quality and the ratings they can produce, but it comes as a double edged sword- the most dangerous guys, like Rigo or GGG, need to pay their opponents a premium to fight them. They're already not getting paid like a U.S. fighter in the first place, and that's with taking % splits that aren't representative of their skills. The end result is that they have trouble attracting the very best opponents because they can't offer paydays worth the risk.

All the fighters can do is:
    a: keep winning
b: hope the network bankrolls them with a higher budget to keep fighting the highest level opposition, or that their promoter features them as B-sides to PPV shows.

That's about it as far as options go.

Boxing on television is about ENTERTAINMENT.

Unfortunately the Cuban amateur style of fighting is generally defensive based which may be appreciated by hardcore boxing fans but that's not going to get you good ratings or fill arena's.

If a boxer isn't willing to at least change their style a little to create more action then they have no place on the likes of HBO/SHOWTIME.

If Mayweather was a Cuban, he'd also be in the same boat as Lara and Rigo no matter whether he was P4P number 1. He just happens to be the only real AMERICAN star in boxing at the moment so has become a Superstar based on that and creating a persona that gets people to watch him despite his less then exciting boxing style.

Because they are about as exciting as watching paint dry...and make absolutely no effort to learn english. Even pac and marquez learned to speak pretty fluently..and canelo is learning now.

Cubans and puerto ricans are just too lazy..but this is not surprising.

Gamboa was exciting and HBO made a genuine effort with him..now he's running like his comrades.

real simple - be exciting and you'll get paid.

    More like too boring.

Gamboa has laid two stinkers in a row. People were booing all fight long in his bout with Perez. And he disappointed against Farenas the fight before that. Oh, it also doesn't help that Gamboa has fought only twice in the last two years.

And Rigo didn't do himself any favors in his last fight. It should've been a dominating performance but it was the most boring fight I have seen in some time.

At least Lara has stepped things up in his last couple, so that helps.

And Rances looked good recently. But Yuri and Rigo are fighting like amateurs.

I think it's because of style and fanbase more than anything, although good, not very marketable fighters.
