Are free standing heavy bags any good?

You bang your feet on the base a lot i.e. stepping in with a jab, your front foot will hit the base which is annoying and ******ed.

I think that they're okay for your timing and stuff, as they swing back and forth alot..But they're nowhere near as good as a heavybag..Heavybags just can't be replaced imo

    Worthless IMO.

I bought one a couple of years ago, before I actually joined a gym. I lived in a flat and it makes a hell of a racket on the floor, so you end up trying to put something underneath it.

Oh and its pretty difficult to fill on and even harder to get the water out.

    Waste of money IMO.

  7. IN general they seem poor but our gym has a few high quality ones set up on a circuit. A good firm high quality bag sat on there and I like the way it moves.

So wouldn't write them off completely.

They are really annoying, I have a slam-man....I use it when I'm not in the gym but no substitute for a heavybag.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am trying to train in my apartment at the moment. I live on the bottom floor of a building, with people living above me. I can't hang anything from the ceiling, so it must be free standing. Would this be the best option to get a solid workout in? Responses seem to be overwhelimingly negative, but it must be better than nothing right? I was also looking at the reflex bags to work on timing.

You can get a wall bracket to hang a bag on your wall and not the ceiling. But if the free standing ones are your only option then it's better than nothing but don't get the shitty inflatable ones or the light ones, I think everlast make good free standing bags. Just make sure you get to a boxing gym often to use a proper heavy bag.

As long as you're getting down the gym regularly, I can't see any problem with getting a free standing bag as a supplement.

But bear in mind they move more than hanging bags because they effectively pivot from the floor and not the ceiling

i got the everlast standing bag. not worth the 250 i paid for it but it worked. get a heavy bag stand and a heavy bag if you can. if u cant, the free standing one didnt break or anything for me....
