Are Froch and Abraham both guaranteed to be through to the semis?

So knockouts supersede number of rounds won? :think Interesting.

That means knockouts actually carried double incentive all along (worth three points, and put you ahead in the case of a tie).

Everyone was always just focused on the one perk (probably thinking the other wouldn't become an issue).

The only thing that can supersede a KO is if the fighters with a tie have faced each other. The winner gets the nod. Abraham and Ward didn't face each other so they look at the numbers of KO.

So if Abraham does get the KO win over Froch (and I expect him to) he will in fact draw the top spot, and gets the immediate rematch over the fighter whose confidence and chin he just smashed. Ward and Johnson will wage a phonebooth war in the 2 vs. 3 match. This sounds like it's going to play out very nicely! :good

I actually don't. They're the two I'd never see doing that.

Froch is the type who might make excuses after a loss but he'd never be a total baby about it and reneg on a deal to see something through because of being butthurt.

Abraham would just be in denial. He's a crazy mother****er. "No, me not lose" - from the stretcher. He'd be right back in there. :yep

Three guys dropped out. One guy refuses to leave his home town. Froch and AA keep soldiering on doing what they signed up to do. I think both will be there to the bitter end.

So theoretically 2-1 (2 KOs) is better than 3-0 (0 KOs)?

I thought it was points, head to head then scorecard with Johnson not getting Kessler's.

    It certainly needs clearing up!

According to the Sponsor of the tournament (Showtime), KOs (or TKOs) determine the rankings.

Only if this STILL results in a tie, do they go to the scorecards (rounds won).

    This makes sense.

To go to the rounds won BEFORE considering the number of stoppages would be unfair.

One boxer would then be rewarded for taking longer to stop an opponent (and presumably winning more rounds on his way to his KO), while another boxer would be 'penalized' for getting his man out in the early rounds.

Absolutely. It does make total sense.

I heard that If the fighter gets a KO for example in the 10th round. The 11th and 12th(remaining rounds) count as won to.

Allan Green inherited Jermain Taylor's scorecard points from Abraham vs. Taylor

    AND THIS IS ALL WRONG

The thing with this fight is, both guys have terrific power. Whoever lands first on the other's Chin is winning by KO. Both have good Chins but the beauty of boxing is that even good Chins crack eventually. To sum up, whoever loses this fight will shift from being an Iron Chinned Warrior to a Glass Jawed fighter overnight.

Abraham has the power advantage, but Froch has the much longer reach so may be able to keep him at bay. I can't wait to see this fight. :bbb:deal

So in summary, the only way Froch and AA will rematch in semis is if

    A) Arthur knocks him out, finishing top of group
    B) Froch wins by KO late on after AA winning practicaly every round. This would drag AAs round tally above Johnson's

    :huh

    My thoughts...

Nobody is KO'ing Johnson. In a fight with AA, Johnson takes it on points because AA is usually less active in the opening rounds.

I could see Froch pulling out if he is KO'ed by AA. He was talking of pulling out previously, over frustrations regarding the location of the fight.

Ward will outbox AA and Johnson because he is younger/quicker than Johson and far too active for AA's plodding/headhunting.

Ward vs. Froch could be exciting....or a shut out. Ward could fight a very mobile, stick and move fight, and if he has the power to hurt Froch...then I don't see Froch being competitive.

    Most powerful puncher: AA

    Slickest boxer: Ward

Most experience, heart and durability: Johnson

    Most intensity: Froch
