Wilder has none and yet executed ortiz (fantastic boxing skills) and nearly ended fury. You can say all he has is 1 big punch but you have to set it up to land it, and he keeps doing it. If you enemy has only one good weapon but he keeps using it on you, then its a problem.
Ortiz was a 40 year old on heart meds, Fury came back from a long layoff after binging on food and drugs, ballooning up to E Honda status, suicidal and mental problems ensued. Wilders career is smoke and mirrors.
The thing is that he doesn't set it up to land it. He just keeps throwing it. He waits until he sees an opening and then launches the right hand with full committal and that has always been his method. It works time after time because his opposition has been so poor and when it hasn't been poor it's been naive. At some point his opponent drops guard and Wilder launches his assault, which is very accurate by the way because that is what he has trained for. He has absolutely nothing else in his arsenal other than a meek jab.
No, they are not. Wilder is naturally gifted and with the fundamentals he would have been unbeatable.
Ahahahaa. Oh, ahahahahahhaa. Really? Wilder is the way he is because he never learned the fundamentals of boxing at a time when it would have sunk in and been automatic to him. He fights the way he does because he's crude and unschooled. That's his special quality. Give him training from a young age and he's simply another Michael Grant.
Wilder has some fundamentals, they're just not readily apparent because his opponents are of a much higher skill level. So no, they're not overrated they allow him to survive in there.
I wouldn’t say fundamentals are overrated, and as we’ve seen many times before, it’s very much possible for a fundamentally sound fighter to lose to a guy who looks like an amateur. Wilder looks like a complete mess at times. I think it takes a sharp boxing eye to realize that there are things he does well from a pure boxing standpoint...kinda like Mayorga. Also, there is a difference between looking unorthodox (Hamed, Roy, Pac) and looking plain sloppy.
I really don't think so. Wilder has speed, crazy power. He is very good at choosing the right distance. Those qualities would stay with him. That another Wilder (trained as a boxer from a young age) could have been boring, yes, but he would still be very effective.
I agree with you. Don't listen to some of these dumbasses on here. DW success is built on his two greatest assets: Power and athleticism. This is what's getting him over. I mentioned in another post something similar to what you said and that is if DW had all his natural gifts but you added Furys boxing ability you'd have an incredible fighter who'd problably be the most dominant hw of all time. He`d be nearly unbeatable. The idiot that said Dw with boxing skills is basically Micheal Grant is an absolute fcking moron of the highest order. Grant had a glass chin, no heart, not as athletic, slower, not as tall and nowhere near the punching power. Absolutely idiotic comparison.
