I disagree. Marquez isn't an all-time great in my judgment either. He hasn't got one signature win on his resume, and to be qualified as an atg you either need several, or you need to be insanely dominant. Marquez possesses neither.
Really? What else can your crystal ball tell us, Pachilles? You're a great admirer of Manny Pacquiao, and therefore it is in your interest to over exaggerate how good those two victories were. I understand, but sometimes common sense should be the main focus.
In fairness Marquez was ripped off twice against Pacquiao..... plus a clear win over Barrera - albeit a faded Barrera. Both Hatton and Cotto are 1-2 in their three biggest fights each. It's called a Hall of Fame for a reason.... not a Hall of Very Good. The standard of induction lately has been too soft, these two will get in, and rightly so compared to some already inducted, but for me, neither of them are what I'd call Hall of Fame fighters if I were setting the criteria.
It was a close but clear victory against a very poor Marco Antonio Barrera above his best weight. Does not qualify as a signature win.
Very debatable, that is why I don't even try.... Anyone in the top 10 has a case to be number 1. It just depends on the person rating them and what seems more impressive to that person.
Of course you do. "Anyone who can give my honey a tough fight must be an ATG". Just kidding. We can agree to disagree, but I don't rank Marquez there yet because he's lacking in the resume department, right or wrong.
Which is what this thread seems to be sort of conflicted upon. Are they HOF fighters? I don't think so at all. Will they get in? I'm 75% sure they will.
Yes yes yes the fact that theyre Pacman victims, my username not helping matters in the slightest, but that is not my game here. Hatton, before the losses was considered great. Maybe not by you personally, but go back on these forums and see the general consensus. He dominated JWW, domination of a weightclass being the key factor in most ATG lists on ESB. His two losses were not to the top 2 fighters of his division, they were to the top 2 P4P fighters of his era. Cotto, like i said before has one of the best active resumes today. He has fought everybody and beaten all but Mr Brickfists and Pacman. You can accuse everyone of ducking someone, not this guy. That counts for something. He had been dominant at WW for a long time. Beaten the best, the strongest division had to offer.
Hall of fame has some standards also. These are very good fighters, but they have lost 2 big fights lately to good fighters and proves they are good and top fighters, but not Hall of Fame which should be akin to ATG in a way.
Exactly, thats my point. Although i will say its my opinion theyre deserving, i may be wrong, i might have low standards. But my point is 20 years from now they will be considered so by boxing media in general.
