Are J L Castillo/Corrales overrated ? I think so. They had a GREAT fight between them no doubt, but i do feel both get too much credit as fighters.

I mean are they really ELITE fighters among the best LW's of all time? im not talking about top 20/50 etc. Im talking about ranking alongside guys like Duran/Whitaker/Molsey/Arguello. I dont believe either of these guys is in that class. I would not pick either of them in a head to head with either of those guys Dont get me wrong im not saying they are not great fighters, because they are, but i just dont feel they are in that upper echelon of ELITE fighters.

If anyone is putting them on the level of those guys then yeah they are definitely overrating them.

Doesnt seem to be the general consensus however.

JLC seems to get a bit overrated by association because Mayweather fans believe anyone who could push Floyd that hard (and arguably beat him) must be one of the greatest ever lightweights, you can usually see right through it. Hell even I believed that for a little while, I thought Castillo was a top15 alltime lightweight but it aint the case as I have been shown and seen for myself.

They were excellent, top level fighters. In particular I felt Castillo was a bit unlucky, with Corrales spitting the mouthpiece, and not getting the nod in the 1st Mayweather fight.

JLC should have been a light welter by the time of the Corrales fights IMO.

Castillo was excellent - he ground down Julio Diaz, Lazcano, Casamayor, Bazan, 2x lightweihgt champ, FFS.

Corrales was also a warrior who provided many memorable nights.

What is with this thread - "they get too much credit as fighters" ?
