I love avoiding threads where the same three guys bring my name up even before I saw the thread.

    Short Answer: Yes!

In general, sluggers are horrible match ups for swarmers!

Obviously a stronger, bigger puncher is never going to be a good match for a smaller guy that cannot do anything but stand and trade. In general terms clearly, if the definition of a swarmer is strictly a smaller, out and out endurance based brawling type grinder, with no punch, coming up against a physically bigger lethal puncher then yes. Nine times out of ten, the Bigger more dangerous “power house” or “slugger” would have the advantage.

So a lot will depend on the definition of Swarmer. Is this swarmer always small? Does the Swarmer have a knockout punch? And by swarming, does this mean crowding without counter punching?

size of the so called “swarmer” For instance, Derek chisora is a swarmer where does he fall into this idea? Isn’t he physically closer to Liston and Foreman? Of course Chusora isn’t in the same class but because he’s closer in size, would he still qualify? Or is it just small ones?

The categorisation of boxing styles in an effort to create a “style advantage” theory in order to play them off in a kind of “Rock Paper Scissors” game is a tremendous simplification that exists only among the internet generation.

Generally trainers of fighters will use gameplans based on each particular style over another style. Factors like career timing play heavily on proving each style can overcome all other styles with the right plan.

There is no unanimous proof that all fighters of one style always lose to a certain type. It’s just not unanimous.

But like everyone says here, I agree with the short answer, depending on the definition, that yes. foreman and Liston can be the biggest nightmare for swarmers. Absolutely yes.

classic breakdown style from the legend that is true they always say the quote of like it has to be a fact that slugger beats swarmer but joe beat one named oscar he lost to George which joe wasnt in shape for but Dempsey even though was sloopy would have had probably more shots landed on George cause of his crazy wildness and his timing was good

and Its other matches where a swarm has beat a slug in other weights which nobody talks of

people need to stop this robot way of thinking it's like cause these guys say the same ill just follow it and say the same thing that's how it comes off as like they dont have a mind of their own

so now no such thing as a style always beats another style where did that dumb quote even come from

they like to say George could only be beat by boxers who outboxed him but he got beat up bad by Ron which means he would lose to other types to

deontay is a slugger he is so sloopy and swings heavy but he would be destroyed by mutiple hws cause of that style

mike always beat slugs better then anybody no slugger ever beat him or came close to it which I think is cause his skill level was way to advanced for a slug to ever beat him I never seen a slug that I think could beat him

Of course nobody is suggesting that one style always beats another style, but some styles overperform/underperform against other styles.

A good slugger will do better against a very good swarmer, than the respective levels of those fighters would suggest.

When the swarmer and the slugger are of about the same caliber, then that might be enough to make the slugger the favorite.

What defines a far better boxer? In what ways was he so much better that would’ve made him anymore effective then George at beating Frazier.

He was more skilled than Foreman and had better stamina. And he had similar punching power

concerning this thread, I think that was the implication.

I agree if we are talking about out and out swarmers and pure slugger. But we need to sort the definition out here. Fighters like Frazier,Dempsey and Rocky could swarm when they wanted to swarm but were sluggers too. They hit as hard as anybody. And they countered. I think it is too general a term to label these guys with.

    No.

This has been your position for literally a decade: that whenever a style advantage (Which you have often denied as even existing) is raised, the person raising it is implying one style always beats another style, like top trumps.

Janitor is absolutely right. This has never been the case, ever. It's just the way your head works.

Well, if you really think about it, all Ali did was swarm Liston and that didn't go very well for the dude.
