Yes. Clottey, Margarito, Mosley are excellent examples. Pac was ranked 1 in the world at the time while none of these fighters were in the top 10 in the world. Clottey was 6 at the time at ww. Mosley was 6 at the time at ww. Margarito unranked at any weight.
again, as asked earlier............when he fought these three, who were the fighters that he could have fought instead that were perceived to be riskier fight at that time??
Earlier in his career, he was legitimately fighting the best guys around. Since the Cotto bout, it's been around 50/50 for legit fights and handpicked fights. Legit: Marquez Bradley Farces: Mosley (two punches in the 2nd round aside, even a blind many could see he was finished during the Mayweather fight) Margarito (Didn't deserve the fight and had been blatantly fed opponents to try to give some legitimacy in his comeback from suspension. Even then, the only issue was how big a body could Pac put a beating on) Should have been legit but turned into a farce: Clottey (a top 5 or 10 contender who who had only recently lost his title belt in a fight where many thought he beat Cotto. Unfortunately, Clottey decided to make his money the easy way)
Certainly not on the lower weights. But you can make arguments for Mosley, Margarito and JMM (backfired). ODLH, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Bradley and JMM 4 were legit.

Floyd but he turned that down over drug testing. Marquez was available back then. Cotto gives more problems to Manny than Margarito at his punk ass 150 weight and he could have tried to negotiate that. Floyd Mayweather rather than Clottey...used drug testing as an excuse not to fight...needed 24 days for some reason...rather than just test and get the fight going. Article already came out that they had agreed on everything else. Guy ducked #2 in the world (#3 WW at time) to fight the non top 10 world ranked and #6 ranked Clottey. There is one. Margarito LMFAO. The guy who got caught cheating.:rofl:rofl Could have fought Marquez OR ANYONE AT 147-154 WOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS GUY.:rofl This is one of the worst cherry picks in the history of the sport. Shane Mosley...LMFAO..could have done the Marquez 3 fight then...Marquez was world ranked at the time. Could have took Sergio Martinez up on his 150 pound offer which he said he was down with...that of course until he then said "no, but I'll do it at 147." Could have went after Andre Berto who was higher ranked and undefeated at the time he was looking for an opponent. Manny then fought a game Marquez (3) and lost that fight about 8-4 at minimum (I had it 9-3 Marquez)..Marquez was ranked #5 at the time I believe so no worries there. I give credit where it's due. Bradley also a decent fight though he could have fought Mayweather. Manny Priced himself out though and turned down 37.5% more than he has ever made. Floyd went on to receive a career high payday of $45 million and broke the guarantee record with $32 million (Oscar holds highest purse record, officially, at $52.8 million. Now your a ******* so your going to find every way to discredit anything I just told you...but do what ya do. When Manny was at the top all alone, HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER FOUGHT ANYONE RANKED OUT OF THE TOP 10 IN THE WORLD AND/OR TOP 4 IN HIS DIVISION.
No it wasn't LMFAO. You *******s are funny people....The fan poll the following week had 67% saying Marquez win while only 29% said Pac won...other 4% was a draw. The media poll the following week had 46% giving the fight to Marquez while only 12% had Manny winning. The other 42% was a draw. If you are going to say that Marquez Manny was not a robbery while Bradley Manny was a robbery then you don't know what the **** your talking about. Marquez won 8 clear rounds with Manny while Manny took 8 clear rounds with Bradley. No matter how you look at it, the view is that Manny lost one (majority) and Manny won one. Manny offiically beat Marquez but officially lost to Bradley. 1-1 OR Manny unofficially beat Bradley and unofficially lost to marquez. 1-1
Clottey was the best available Welter who wasn't tied up in a bout. (Floyd had broken off negotiations, Berto and Mosley were scheduled to fight each other, Ortiz hadn't made up for the Maidana stoppage yet, Cotto had just lost to Pac, etc.) Marquez and Pac have always been the same size, size hadn't played a role in their fights before. I don't doubt that Pac's management thought the weight might slide things their way, but I think the boxing people always knew that it was going to be another Pac-Marquez bout, just like the 2 before it. Diaz was his first fight at Lightweight, it was a perfectly acceptable match. Most people on here thought Pac was barely going to get by Diaz, if he won at all. Like I said in my my post earlier this page, Mosley and Margo were both farce matchups, easy paydays.
So... I guess the moral of this thread is: Every fighter handpicks their opponents. But when Floyd does it, he's a *****. LOL, once again logic has been thrown off a cliff in sake of the fans' love for a fighter. SMH.
Manny has the best resume of the past 20 years. A few cherry pics in there of course but: Marquez Morales Barrera hatton cotto bradley lebwada are nobodies cherry picks. even some of his average wins like clottey. how to hell can you cherry pick clottey, or even margarito.
this Margarito was still a risk because of the size difference. and manny is a come forward fighter. It was definetly a cherry pick for a light middle belt, but in terms of the competition it was tough. Lets not forget this same margo was even money to beat cotto in his fight after. the same cotto that gave mayweather fits. So if that's a cherry pick! I personally was nervous all the way through this fight up to about the 11th round and margo certainy had his moments. Alot of boxing experts gave Margo a massive chance here.
again how the hell can you cherry pick clottey. The guy is a beast who arguably beat cotto and a prime margo. What was e cherry picked for? his fan base :rofl he was unknown name, who hardcore fans new could be a threat.
