If Sky DID pull the plug it wouldn't take another broadcaster long to realise they could do a deal with Hearn and essentially have a strong hold on boxing in the UK. Boxnation given their crop of fighters that they have left isn't really in competition with anyone, it seems that their most likely scenario is to keep picking up the big american cards and hope no one can be bothered to actually cancel their direct debit.
If you`re being serious then i must say if Boxnation is the only game in town then we are ****ed because it will never be big enough on it`s own to keep boxing relevent in this country, casual sports fans have never heard of it,if Sky pulled out and we have no terrestial tv then Boxing in this country would be in dire straits.I`m a fan of Boxnation and a subscriber by the way.
Some people are so fickle with their opinions its embarrasing, Saturday nights card was good on paper, Bellew/Chilemba was a 50-50 fight that ended in a draw, many people were predicting a KO. If Froch decides to fight against Kessler like he did against Abraham and it becomes tactical does it make it a bad fight? If you saw some of the old friday night offerings then you'd realise that this is far superior and they've introduced the undercard on the red button but apparently they are ruining Boxing. We have honestly never had it so good in terms of Boxing on tv, Sky are putting on better shows than in years previous and BN are picking up quality International fights.
A monopoly is never good, competition is what makes business work. I actually prefared the old days ffn and a late Saturday international show
The reintroduction of PPV with Froch/Kessler is a mistake in my opinion. It's not a grudge match like Haye/Vitali or Brook/Khan is and however many times there say the word "Warrior" is not going to change that.
lol. There seems to be this attitude that Sky are a charity. Were you critical of ITV when they had exclusive deals with Frank & Hennesey? ESPN have only shown Friday Fight Nights and the WSB and never produced a live domestic show. Setanta the saints of Boxing only worked with Frank and did 6 shows a year with Hayemaker. BoxNation a dedicated boxing channel have only shown 3 domestic shows this year. Channel 5 were exclusive with Hennesey and then dropped boxing. As others have said they have a duty to provide a range of sports programming. Sky are not stupid, if boxing got them a higher number of subscribers they would be showing more boxing. I personally think the quality of Sky's boxing output had improved since Adam Smith took the reigns and the exclusive deal was given to Matchroom. I know others don't share the opinion. The Matchroom exclusive is a long term project. It will take time for Matchrooms stable to grow and other promoters to get on board with the regime change and having to work via Matchroom. But the days of Sky paying 100k for shows where half the bill comprises of tumbling Latvian imports and commonwealth titles being contested in half full leisure centers is a thing of the past and that can only be a good thing for the sport.
The fight wouldn't be happening without PPV. Better to have it and theirs a choice to watch it than none at all. I am sure you were the first person to slag of Froch vs Mack.
How is it a monopoly? I guess those 20 other promoters and 500 other TV channels have just disapeard overnight and I didn't realise?
sky aint terrestial tv got nothing against them being in boxing but matchroom having total control is a bad thing.
I tend to agree but I think its an exaggeration to believe Matchroom have total control of Boxing at Sky. Sky Sports has close to 10million subscribers. BoxNation at best is 200,000 so there is still a major difference there.
yes absolutely. In a couple of years time when there is no boxing on sky, we will know who's fault it was. Eddie Hearn.
Why would that be Hearns fault and not the fault of Frank, Hattons, Maloney who left or got dropped by Sky first?
