And then there was Corrales who dumped his IBF belt to fight Floyd.

Holyfield got robbed vs Valuev and i think it would have been his fifth world title.

Yeah the 140 one he got off Hatton. However, i believe Hatton was the lineal champ too so it's legit.

He was the SFW champ and the LW champ. He was never champion at LWW.

He's been the WW champ twice now (second reign starts at different places dependent upon interpretation). He's also been LMW champ (potentially twice depending upon interpretation)

If we're gonna compare across era we should be consistent. He has held a lot of titles but he hasn't as often been the top rated fighter in a division.

Not the way the OP counts it (wich I think is bogus). And you completely forget his CW reign as well.

In the way the OP counts he would have had:

    CW - WBA, WBC, IBF = 3
    HW reign 1 - WBA, WBC, IBF = 3 (total 6)
    HW reign 2 - WBA, IBF = 2 (total 8.)
    HW reign 3 - WBA, IBF = 2 (total 10)
    HW reign 4 - WBA = 1 (total 11)
And if you either count the WBF belt :)lol:) then he totals 12 just like Floydypants.

    I didn't know about Wilde's run.

And I'd never even heard of Pedro Carrasco.

    Thanks for that. :good

Whatever the truth of Chavez' disqualification early on, rightly or wrongly, it was overturned and his official record reads 87 straight wins. He tends to get the glory for it, too.

Robinson lost early on and Wilde had a string of draws and no contests.

Carrasco, however, seems to have had a straight run of 90+ victories.

Not sure why Carrasco gets over looked. Like I say I'd never even heard of him, let alone his amazing win streak.

There are too many belts today; there's always some belt or other on the line and it's easier to pick them up.

Back in the sixties and seventies there were only the WBA and WBC belts.

Then by time the 80's came around they introduced the IBF.

Come the 90's and they brought in the WBO, but it was quite a while before anyone took it seriously.

Now you have the IBO and WBU belts and people are talking like maybe considering them as legit titles as well.

I'm not sure the number of belts won is as worthwhile a milestone as it used to be.

Boxers relinquish belts and move up in weight to fight for different belts more often these days, too.

There's just more opportunity to fight for different belt these days, particularly for guys with a bit of a name.
