Do you think many modern heavies are carrying 10-30 lbs extra weight? In other words, should someone who is 6'6 really be 260 lbs or more like 240? I think carrying 20 lbs less does not make you a weaker puncher. But it does give you greater strength and agility.
I agree. Every other weight division the boxers (nearly all) have visible abdominal muscle, but heavyweight mostly carry fat now. Fans I read sometimes try to rationalise this but it is poorly argued.
Because the massive heavies of today don't cut weight like other fighters In other weights do, fignters that kill themselves to make weight 2 divisions lower than they should be fighting in. People like fury wouldn't ever make a lower weight so hasn't ever needed to have a strict diet, as we can clearly see! Lol
If you think Fury needs to lose weight you DKSAB He debutted at 260 and now fights closer to 270. All he does in camp is trade up his muscle & fat composition. He loses muscle out of camp and gains fat, tries to do the opposite in camp. During his comeback years under Davidson he focused too heavily on losing weight didn't have a proper diet training at calorie deficit draining all his strength. Anything below 260 now for Fury is overtrained as he was with Wallin and even the first Wilder fight but his body needed time to adjust.
Yeah no doubt. I'd like to lose some of the mass myself for boxing purposes. I'm 6'1 around 270. I am 40 now and my career is basically lifting heavy things all day lol. When I boxed I was between 230-250 and I was a little chubby. Only had 7 fights. Won all by stoppage....purely amateur. Only 3 real KOs though. I was gettin outboxed/outworked in basically all of my fights haha. I was very conservative with my shots. Probably never woulda won a decision if I went to the cards lol I felt it was wrong to throw a shot unless I knew it was landing 100%. But I landed solid and the refs liked me maybe. You know how the amateurs work. A solid shot..hurt or not is a standing 8 and timing was my main thing. I have deceptively short arms...like a T-rex lol I'm a 6'1 heavyweight with GGG reach lol. Had the Winky Wright defense goin...probably not the best for heavies...absorbed more than I needed. I Woulda been CTE'd right up by now if I continued lol. Made a head bobble in all of those fights lol. You can pop out a win just by makin a shot look good in the ammies. Timing is literally everything. Never did go more than 2 rounds. Now at 270 I'm actually much stronger and much more toned than I was when I was fighting. But I'm muscle-bound really because of my job. So back to your original point...I have 40-50 pounds more muscle mass now than I did when I was fighting as a chubby 230 or 240 heavyweight and I am physically much stronger. But I really believe I was a better and faster puncher when I was chubby and my upper body wasn't as built.
Thats the **** his father said but honestly he is still too fat for the work he put in. No excuse to be flabby. His ideal weight is around when he fought Wlad. Eventhough I think he was heavier than the scale showed.
Rubbish he fought Wlad at around 260 although the scales were rigged by dodgy Wlad to make Fury out to be 246 to make him look lighter. 25 year old Fury is not 35 year old Fury. Anything under 260 is drained. Wallin & Wilder 1. Peak is 274 solid Wilder 2. Wlad is a scumbag coward who got sonned by Fury. Wearing high heels, rigged scales, rigged canvas, Didn't let team Fury watch the hand wraps. Rigged ref. Easy work.
Joyce came into the Zhang fight 14lbs or so lighter than usual, right? And I think it had a noticeable impact on his physical strength and punch resistance, I'm not saying the fight would have gone a different way if he was heavier but I think it definitely played a role in his performance . That, and the fact he fell in love with his own chin and utilised a stupid game plan
