All it did was add a lot of muscle & he was never the same fighter again.

Holy was similar, they put him on a high-tech modern training plan when he moved up to heavy. He bulked up but slowed down & lost stamina.

Don't agree with that at all.

Fighters now do just as much technical training, spaarring ect as they have ever done, what's changed is that they do extra S&C in addition to the traditional technical work, which makes a fighter's training regime each day more intense and longer, in other words they do more and this is where nurition is crucial to make sure you can train harder for longer.

Good basic nutition is very important aside from supplements which aren't always needed but figured into a good core diet can help.

Trust me the days of a post training gourge of a bottle of lucazade, a bannana and a mars bar are thankfully in the past!!!

    exactly

these methods haven't been adopted because they look cool but they show results.

and seems like most people in this thread believe modern s&c means lifting a bunch of weight.

its not much different than old school training, circuits/interval training, agility drills etc existed a long time before mackie shilstone or alex ariza came onto the scene.

nonito donaire has one of the best programs i have ever seen a boxer follow.

For a sport that stresses mental toughness there is certainly no substitute for hard work dedication. That not to say that boxers can be scientific with there training. Just make sure the boxing comes first
