Of course, there are exceptions, but do you think posters pull for fighters with whom they share common ancestry? I posit that posters who are from Europe root for European fighters and to a lesser extent, americans root for americans. I feel the biggest KP fans are from the US, the biggest doubters are from the UK, the biggest Calzaghe fans are from the UK, the biggest doubters from the US etc. This could be a result of who we are able to watch. Because I am in New York, it is easier for me to see american fighters. Any thoughts?

My favorite fighters are Pacquiao (Philippines), Cotto (Puerto Rico), & Abraham (Germany).. I never pull for a fighter just because of what country they are from, but there are a lot of people who pull for fighters who share ancestry..

i pull for fighters based on their styles, not where they are from. Cotto and Pavlik are my favorite 2 fighters now b/c if their relentless attitudes. I'm puerto rican by the way.

in the past, i liked DLH more than Tito and I cant stand John Ruiz (but then again, i cant think of any puerto rican i've ever met who likes him)

Its easier to root for someone when you have something a common background or other similarity. Skinny people generally identify with skinny fighters, overweight people generally identify with overweight fighters, and older fans tend to love the older guys. This phenomonen is too a large extent human nature.

People in the Philippines might be a little bit harsh on their fighters who doesn't do well. Take for example Villoria and Bautista. They received a lot of worse comments after their loss.

I'm from the US and excluding Cotto, KP and maybe Jermain Taylor all the fighters I see making a big impact on the sport now and for the next 5 years are not american. So, for me I don't care what country a fighter comes from as long as they can fight. Maybe in the 80's-90's i was more nationalistic with my fighters. However, I now appreciate international fighters and ESPECIALLY thier fans because boxing and it's popularity have decreased alot in the U.S. and in my opinion the fans outside the U.S. are carrying the sport. Just stating facts. I look foward to the time when boxing rises to prominance in the U.S. again!!!

    100% Yes.

I try not to be. I'd love to think American fights will always win but the sports better in me knows this not to be true.

I can't imagine basing favorites on national origin. It's unthinkable to me.

This may be true, as well.. I'm a relatively small dude and I do kind of show more interest in the smaller fighters, than the bigger ones.. Rarely do I pay any attention above the LHW division, but I do read up and keep track, sometimes watching a couple aired fights.. Although I'm young, I do like to watch some of the old fighters and study up on them..

Same here. I couldn't give a crap where a fighter is from.

Muhammad Ali, Marco Antonio Barrera, Wilfred Benitez, Cristian Mijares, and Juan Manuel Marquez are my all time favourite fighters.

For the most part, I'll root for an American fighter but I'll never let patriotism cloud my judgment. I knew that Wilson would lose to Arslan and I felt that Cunningham had a very good chance of beating Huck, which I was happy to see happen.

It really all depends on the event itself. How big the fight is. I wanted Mayweather to beat Hatton but on the other hand I wanted Calzaghe to beat Hopkins. For a fight like Bradley/Witter...yeah, it's cool to see an American go across the pond and win a belt but I really didn't have a rooting interest so it's not like I'm spouting nonsense about how big a deal it is.

Yes most boxing fans are biased towards fighters who share their ethnicity, it's been that way for decades, me personally as Boricua that does'nt mean I like every Boricua fighter, for instance I don't like Luis Collazo and would root against him if he fought Andre Berto. But even with a PR fighter I got alot of love for I'm able to call it as I see it.
