Your right, I have never seen a real Itallion now that you mentioned it. Just joking. I feel it is a little different with Latinos. If you are Itallion and all I see is a white person. Same with white folks when they see blacks. They see black people not Haition, Jamaican, etc. I don't know, I have a problem understanding that. Just say you are born here and I go to your house and they speak Itallion, you are Itallion my friend. No, you don't understand, I was born here and my parents were born in Italy. They are Itallion not me. That goes for grandparents too.

I am not biased. There are not too many good fighter from my native country(s), and I am not biased toward U.S. fighter, even as it is my adopted country.

Boxing is a nationalistic sport just like Soccer. Many people will go for the fighter they feel they can relate to or share culture with. Im chicano and i root for mexican and mexican american fighters over other fighters from foreign countries. There is nothing wrong with that. But I root and watch other fighters too I am not narrow minded, but 1/3 of my favorite fighters to watch and rooted for have been of mexican ancestory. can you blame me they are the backbone of the fight game.

Not to be rude, but isn't Chicano Mexican? I'm sure you read my post to spitbucket. If so, than it is your ancestory. I don't know about the backbone part, but they are most definitely top five.

Often its a case of people being biased towards the boxers they know, which often coincides with boxers from their country but not always.

Ethnicity wise yes Chicano is from mexican decent but nationlisticaly a Chicano is a mexican american from California with a strong emphasis on being American and blending it with Mexican culture.

and as for the backbone part, like apollo creed said "thats your opinion and your entitled to it"... :D

    National pride!!!

It gets ugly tho, because this is where the hate comes from. And often times, the huggers who doesnt have that much knowledge of the sport will try to engage in the arguments because they feel somewhat obligated/proud towards his fellow countryman.

Exactly! it can get ugly but thats the way it is. In order for that to change i guess they would have to ban fighters dressing up in the colors of their country or orgins and lose nicknames like the "aztec warrior" and "irish" micky ward and stop bringing flags into the ring... To be honest Its the alcohol that makes it get ugly!:yep

You have a strong point. I just can't stand when a Boricua fights a Mexican, then it is label as such. HBO is famous for this. Hopkins with the flag throwing incident and so on. I don't think that it will ever change.

I am the same way. I grew up with Koreans, Mexicans, African Americans, Brits, Armenians, Jews etc that if anything I am biased in favor of diversity.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like if you are from the US and grew up in a major city, you had to know many different cultures. I am proud of who I am, but my country is a melting pot. If you are from Mexico City, you may be pro-Mexican, or if you are from the UK you are pro-Brit, but if you are from LA or NY you are pro-fighter. Am I wrong?

NAh! no need to change it, its actually what's selling the sport:yep
And alcohol! ha! i have different reactions when watching it live drunk and sober. I have to admit, i prefer to watch a live fight kinda tipsy.:happy
I can always watch the replay sober and rational:hat

Yes, I am "chicano" so I always root for the Mexican fighter...it's only natural... but I don't get stupid with it like some people.

Cotto vs. Margarito for example.... I will be rooting for Margarito, but I think Cotto will win...or Diaz vs. Pac... Diaz is mexican american like me but I knew he had no chance.
