Im born and race in puerto rico and mi abuelo used to love both Benn and Eubank. everytime we had a chance we saw their fights...im a huge fan of both......they Hall of Famers for sure. for my they are top 10 best uk fighters ever
Other than the tired lowest common denominator argument, there isn't a particularly good case for either. I think both fighters fall firmly into the "very good, but not great" category. They both have some excellent wins, and were top 5 guys in their divisions for a long stretch. However, looking at their careers objectively and disregarding alphabet titles, there isn't much to separate them from several other very good fighters from the same era (eg Reggie Johnson, Nunn, Kalambay, Collins). I think British fans tend to overrate them a bit based on their charisma and media profile. There are other British fighters like Honeyghan who are more "HOF Worthy", and Winstone and Conteh at their best were better fighters.
TBH neither of them quite make it,esp Eubank, hometown man with his years of defending his title against mainly drab opposition, boring 12 rounders.
He wouldn't have won a title at heavyweight, but he'd still have gone down as one of the greatest fighters of the era. Anyone who argues otherwise seems to be suggesting that: 1) A significant number of his peers weren't also juicing 2) Whatever program Roy was using transformed a half-decent fighter into a once in a lifetime talent Either suggestion is as ridiculous as Roy's Ripped Fuel defense. Boxing isn't cycling - you can't turn super-responder donkeys into racehorses.
I'd prefer to remember things that actually happened. 1991 - 4 title fights 1992 - 5 title fights 1993 - 3 title fights 1994 - 6 title fights He was certainly more active than the norm (especially compared to the current era), but it was only really the Sky World Tour **** that was unusual. Not coincidentally, that year included probably his career worst performance against Schommer.
The fight Jones tested dirty in, the other fighter had twice as high of a testosterone count as Jones. We can name 3 opponents of Roy's that failed tests, I am sure there are many more that were not caught.
There is not a single victory on Roy's resume where I feel steroids made the difference.. And I don't believe he was roided the whole time anyway. So the answer is yes, Roy would be in the hall of fame no matter what.
Doubt it, as awesome as they are there will always be someone more worthy. Hat said they are better than some already in their...
this question seems to pop up at least once a month. Benn, yes. Eubank, no. Benn was willing to fight anyone. has a handful of great wins, including a win (on my card) over Eubank in the rematch. it was only by 1 point, but a win is a win. can't claim it to be a robbery though. that would be going way too far. he deserves to be in there. Eubank was happy to be a celebrity getting big fat checks from SKY for fighting below par opposition. he really wasn't bothered about a legacy. why would he? he got a 3 fight contract from SKY worth £10 million. he was happy as he was. he has a few good solid wins, but nowhere near enough for him to get into the hall.
