Are people becoming a little hypocritical when it comes to Usyk?

I've noticed lately people defending Usyk for wanting to rematch AJ (best of ten?), and encouraging him to just take money fights instead of better match ups. Why? We all gave Fury stick for it when he was milking his championship for money, and rightfully so.

I want to see Usyk fight different opponents with different styles, not just rematching the same old guys over and over again. Alternatively it'd be better if he retired or moved back to cruiserweight. I'm sick of seeing the HW division held up for the sake of cashcows getting infinite title attempts.

    Thoughts?

If you make this thread to criticize Usyk for it, WHEN HE'S NEVER DONE IT, as a Tyson Fury fan are you not being hypocritical?

I have no desire to see him fight Joshua again, but we should be realistic that fighting Joshua a third time to get his title back and become double undisputed is not the same as fighting King-of-gatekeepers-Chisora a third time and an MMA guy.

He's still fighting arguably the second best heavy on boxing, a former two-time champ, and a guy three inches taller and, what, 30 pounds heavier. Again, it will be possibly for the IBF title.

Also, he said that is reason for fighting Joshua was to repay him for giving him the chance, with is a little BS since he was a mando, but its a decent sentiment.

Finally, he is talking about his swan song, and he could fight anyone as a send-off. For a last fight, even Canelo would have been acceptable. It is goodbye for the fans.

I would much rather see him fight Parker, or even go back down to cruiser like he was talking about and fight Opetaia, but if its Joshua, it is what it is.

I'm a fan of both. I believe in holding both to the same standard. I criticized Fury for both the Chisora and Ngannou fight, and I'll criticize Usyk for taking a third fight against AJ if he does it.

This thread was made based off the announcement that Usyk only wants to fight Fury and AJ, and people's reaction to that.

If he wanted to keep the title he shouldn't have dropped it. Remember he wasn't actually stripped, and there's no guarantee AJ will hold the IBF after his next fight, yet Usyk will likely fight him anyway.

I don't mind him taking money fights as long as the fights are at least exciting and/or fun.
He deserves big money fights at this stage.

If money is the main factor, he's probably one of the few that deserves some grace here. He has a history of taking all kinds of tough fights on the opponent's home ground. If anyone has earned a big payday on his way out ... it's Usyk.

If Fury is 90 out of a scale where 100 is maximum hypocritical, Usyk would be a 2. In short, Fury ducked his main challenges for his entire career, Wlad rematch, AJ, and Usyk for years, taking the "I'm insane" and Beyonce trilogy, and MMA Ngannou over anything meaningful. Usyk on the other hand has won Olympic gold, then defeated a strong Cruiserweight division, all in their backyard, and then stepped up to fight and defeat the best heavyweights, who based on size he has no right to be in the ring with. He is giving Fury his rematch, which is the honourable choice, he had beaten both Dubois and AJ, and probably wants to finish it with an AJ fight, who is arguably number 2, but certainly the most lucrative fight. He will probably give it all to Ukraine to fight Russia anyway. Meanwhile Canelo is fighting a who's who of smaller and/or unranked contenders without a peep from anyone. Usyk's last 5 fights exceed Canelo's entire resume.

    No hypocrisy here.

The difference here is if he fights Fury then AJ again he's fighting the next best HW twice in a row.

Fury is the next best HW right now. The winner of Dubois v AJ will hold that title soon enough.

No one cares about what the OP thinks, for all I know, you're not gonna pay his bills after retirement. If it's called a big money fight, that means it generates enough interest to rake in huge wads of cash.

He doesn't really gain much for rematching fights: hes already proven himself beating Fury and AJ (2x). Wilder would have been cool but he has already declined.

Parker would be a good fight but the division doesn't make sense factoring in risk/money

I understand your point. The rematches are exceptable, but a 3rd with AJ is a money grab only. But if he is only going to fight 2-3 more times, who can he fight other than AJ that would put that kind of cash in his pocket book.

The comparison with Fury is a bit off in my opinion. Fury got the belt from Vlad and never gave a rematch, rather, he remained inactive for almost 3 years, came back, fought d level op and then fought Wilder 3 times. While claiming he's a fighting man and the best fighter in history. As I've said in the past, if Fury had rematched Wlad and just defended his belt 2 times a year since getting the belt, he would be held in much higher regard and arguably one of the best HW's ever. Instead we got nonsense and a buffoon act against Nagannou.

Would a third AJ fight really be exciting though? We've seen it twice already.

They agreed to let it be on the line for the Fury rematch last I checked. Why the rush to drop the belt?
