Are people being overly harsh on Canelo since his loss to Bivol?

People hate Canelo because of GGG1. If they deny this, they're lying. Everything else: Caneloweight, Trout/Lara, GGG2, Kovalev cherrypick/rehydration clause, 168 being bummy, Benavidez ducking etc. - it's all because of GGG1

Canelo is probably no.3 P4P in the world with Usyk no.1 and Inoue no.2 (though Inoue tops Usyk with a Fulton destruction). Canelo's skills, experience and consistency are incredible. His resume is easily the deepest in boxing today and is a throwback to the Oscar/May/Pac era

Canelo toyed with the best middleweight in the world last September and just battered the man who narrowly beat Danny Jacobs. Canelo is still a beast. Canelo is still the face of boxing

    The problem is...

Canelo has hit his peak and his career is somewhat floundering. This isn't a guy who crushed his division for years like Hagler, and outside of a cruiserweight cherrypick he has no more divisions to climb. GGG3 and Ryder in 7 months is really good compared to most clowns fighting today, but for a man who has been pushing his peak like crazy from 2018-2021, he's kind of reached it and has no where to go. Bivol schooled this man. SCHOOLED. And while a Beterbiev matchup might be more favourable, he's still not clearing the hurdle

So now that Canelo has less wind in his sails, the goofy GGG1 jackals are back. Even Ring mag dropping Canelo below Bud and Spence, and slotting Bivol in there are crazy

I think this is Canelo's career plan:
    >one last roll of the dice against Bivol
    >Benavidez fight
    >Morrell fight
    >Mall can-crushing
    >Badou Jack cherrypick
    >Spence/Mell superfights

But that requires signing with PBC and leaving his Matchroom bubble. I also wouldn't put it past him to grab another 175 belt if they fragment, but what's the point?

No more Brits, please. Ryder was acceptable after beating Jacobs, but this is it. No more

He just had a really good fight with a tough opponent. No problem with it, he should avoid Bivol like the plague though

DAZN have been pushing that narrative heavily this past week in the buildup to this Ryder fight.

I suppose, if they repeat it enough eventually enough people will believe it.

Well you said it like i have also before a couple of times but it goes ignored here & i mean even some defiantly predicted Ryder to beat him but as per usual were wrong again so now they'll continue their antics with new found reasons.

To be honest, he beat Ryder worse than Bivol has beaten many of his opponents. He's just a hated fighter.

Yes but instead lets just keep talking about Ryder being this & that though he does deserves credit in his own right but when it's Canelo's opponents & especially when you have been proven wrong again about your hope in him losing you got to stay on topic.

I was among the folk that thought Canelo would just keep simultaneously getting stronger and adding tools to his bag by his work ethic coupled with his team and modern chemistry/nutrition. Seemed like for a loong time every fight there was some measurable improvement. Nevermind the guys he was fighting or what you thought of the circumstances under which the fights were made or the judging or the refs or what. I thought he was constantly improving so I had his arc ending where? Betreiveiv? Cruiser? Then he fought Bivol and when his power had little discernible effect and he was unable to come up with another answer and just got his ears boxed, I thought, "Ok. There is the ceiling". He hasn't really looked less than that performance to me since, but I no longer have the expectation of improvement. So that affects my predictions regarding his choice of opposition as well as his overall greatness relative to other boxers. Is that too harsh?

Canelo's one of the all time greats imho and nothing but respect for his losses because he stepped up and challenged himself in a time you have champs that you can't even make fight for tens of millions of dollars. I was harsh on Canelo for not kayoing Ryder when in retrospect i should have been even more impressed with Ryder then I already was.

People are being harsh to Canelo because he didn’t KO Ryder. It’s like saying Mayweather was past his prime because he couldn’t KO Canelo.

People hate Canelo because of GGG 1 because lets face it- that was a pretty bad decision and even Im not a fan of either fighter there is no way that fight was a draw- Canelo lost.
Put Ryder in with one of the young guns- Benavidez- and Ryder gets stopped its really that simple. Ryder is a good tough pro but really nothing else and honestly he got a girt decision vs Jacobs which is one of his biggest wins.
Canelo"s best opponent was Mayweather and lets be honest- he was 100% outclassed and lost wide.
His second best opponent was GGG and he lost that first fight and got a gift draw.
Imagine Canelo in with say a Mccallum or a Hearns at 154 and he would get outclassed.
Imagine what a prime Hagler would have done to Canelo at middle- I promise you Canelo does not see the final bell.
Canelo is a good boxer but lets be honest- he makes the game money so he gets things on his terms which is not his fault but its just a fact.
