I did not think Bernard Hopkins would win this fight. I doubted him. I was wrong.

There can be no BS about how Pavlik was overrated, none whatsoever. Pavlik is a very very good fighter, he just came up against a MASTER on top form. He will go back to middleweight and become king of that division.

I now believe Hopkins displaces Calzaghe at #3 in the pound-for-pound rankings.
He has just dominated a young, undefeated top 10 p4p KO artist, while Calzaghe is in training so he is strong enough to lift a sack of money that he will get for beating up a man he himself described as being 'shot' 4 years ago. Also, I thought Hopkins won the fight with Calzaghe anyway - but now surely there will be a rematch? I hope so. Before this fight, Hopkins's resume was better than Calzaghe's, but just how much better is it now I ask you??

Anyway, enough talk about future fights and old opponents, I want to congratulate Bernard Hopkins on a SENSATIONAL performance, I want to apologize for doubting him, and I want to acclaim him as a genuine ALL-TIME GREAT, one of the greatest fighters of our age.

Are you ready to admit Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is indeed extremely good, a lot better than you have been claiming?

I'm ready to admit Hopkins is a marvel.

Hopkins is one of my favourite fighters, ever, and I absolutley loved the performance, but seriously, I, like you, have been trying to explain why Hopkins was a great win for Calzaghe since that night with little sucess. Maybe now people will see and understand.

Totally agree, man. What Hopkins did last night was incredible. It's a funny thing to say, but every time I find myself not caring about a B-HOP fight, once he steps in the ring against his opponent, I find myself rooting for him big time. Last night was no different.

When he stood and stared out at press row fight off tears at his accomplishment, that was some powerful stuff.

But I never held it quite as highly as you because of how messy it was for Calzaghe. But it appears you were absolutely right. You are the only guy on here that thought that it was an outstanding win for Calzaghe, rather than just good or disappointing. Very impressive.

Yes, I am officially admitting that Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is indeed extremely good, and a lot better than I have been claiming.

I was wrong about Hopkins. I thought the way he gassed in the Calzaghe fight meant he had no stamina anymore. He does. I did have him winning the fight with Calzaghe by a point, but I always abide by the judges' decision. In reality Calzaghe won, therefore he must be given credit for this win (the only time I would go against this principle would be in the case of a blatant robbery, but Calzaghe-Hopkins was not that, it was very very close).

IMO, Joe's resume just got a whole lot better. They MUST have a rematch!!!!!!! Agreed? :good

Thanks for the props. What I will say is this - it's easy to attack a fighter for winning ugly. But it is hard to see the reasons for that ugliness sometimes. Because Bernard is one of my favourites I was lucky enough to be in a position to understand what it was B-Hop was doing to Joe - and how impressive it was that Joe found a way through the minefield, mainly with footwork and that unnatural balnce of his - not so much supernatural as unqiue.

If Joe beats Roy then I think they should do it in Cardiff before both hanging them up.

I think a rematch could be justified.

Finally the slapping should be put to bed too. Pavlik could not get ANYTHING off. He just plodded around the ring failing to get into range and scared to throw anything for counters, his work-rate was cut into a third nevermind half. Whereas Calzaghe adjusted as always, shortened his punches, and did whatever he had to - just to land against a defensive master.

    No!

It was a dreadful fight and the next one would be the same.

If Hopkins fought like he did last night then it would have the potential to be a good fight but Hopkins isn't stupid. He knows that you don't go after Calzaghe because you play right into his hands. Nobody beats Calzaghe by taking the fight to him.

You can't presently rank Hopkins over Joe, its utterly absurd.

I can't think of anything better!

90,000 in the Millennium Stadium, the final fight for both men.

    It would be GARGANTUAN!!!!

Yeah, I'll man up and call him an ATG now.

But WHY does he insist on so many catchweight fights, it almost demeans the achievements in a way. I wish he'd take fights in a recognised weight-class.

You'll get deleted again with that sort of attitude. This is a celebration of Hopkins's achievement, but not another argument about Calzaghe. Invade some other thread chum
