I have been sure of him as a true ATG since Tarver.

We NEED Pacquiao-Marquez III and Hopkins-Calzaghe II as soon as possible, as we now have a clear world elite top 4 fighters IMO.

I'm not sure though. That was a horrible beating. That must have been so demoralizing for the boy. Hopkins has a tendency to ruin guys, I think he took a bit out of Taylor, and this was far far worse.

Pavlik couldn't find a way to put pressure on him so he just didn't tire at all. How many punches did Pavlik throw? I'd be interested to know that. This was the classic case of a counterpuncher limiting a volume punchers work.

Agreed with all that apart from the stoppage.

Some will shout for the Dawson/Calzaghe fight and accuse Joe of ducking him but business wise it doesn't make any sense where the Hopkins rematch does. Especially now after he showed everyone last night that he still has it and is now P4P #4 no doubt.

    Calzaghe v Lacy.

    Before that PBF v Corrales.

Possibly his fights against Tarver and Trinadad. Although considering his age, last night's performance might trump them all?

You may be right. When you think about it, did Tito ever really recover after B-Hop? Did Hamed recover after Barrera? Did Lacy recover after Calzaghe? When someone is mastered in a big fight, it does seem to affect them mentally.

IMO, the Trinidad win is still slightly better, but last night just about tops Tarver.

What a top 3 for the resume!

Last night tops Cal-Lacy for me, simply because I think Pavlik is a better fighter than Lacy. Pavlik's wins over Taylor showed ability that Lacy never had.

PBF v Corrales, Pacquiao v Barrera I, Hopkins v Trinidad, Morales v Pacquiao I... this is right up there with any of them as the best wins of the century.

before this fight i couldn't envisage hopkins beating pavlik - how ****ing wrong can a man be?

i take my hat off to hopkins, he schooled pavlik from start to finish - a masterfull performance from a true all time great.

i don't recall any fighter who has been able to neutralise an opponents strengths like hopkins. hopkins must be one of the cleverist strategical fighters there has ever been, he develops a strategy to expose everyone.

as a calzaghe fan, i was dissapointed in joe's performance v b-hop but in hindsight joe did not get enough credit for finding a way to win the fight despite being knocked down in the 1st.

today i take my hat off to hopkins, he reminded us all once again why he will go down in history as one of the greats of the modern era.

Yeah, it's a close call between the victories over Trinidad and Pavlik. I just thought that considering his age, the Pavlik win edges it.

You're right, not a bad list of names to have on your resume

I should note here - I read an interview with Freddie Roach a couple of months ago where Freddie said he wouldn't train Bernard for this fight as he didn't think Hopkins could win and that he was worried about what might happen to B-Hop against Kelly. How wrong can a guy be?!?!?!!?

would be interesting to see how pavlik picks up the pieces. imo that was more embarrasing than it was brutal. not on the level of say trinidad - vargas in terms of career-wrecks. thats that for all the calzaghe-pavlik talk, i would prefer to see calzaghe-hopkins 2.

Do you think this might have been a sneaky ploy between Hopkins + Roach to give Pavlik a false sense of security?? - Maybe it's just me being cynical?
