I fought amateur and had to cut weight all the time. The problem is that most boxers are morons and are fighting in the wrong division and/or don't stay within 10 lbs of their weigh-in weight ala Hopkins and Mayweather. Boxers do this for a ****ing living and should be in good shape year round so that they don't have to cut so much weight. If they find themselves growing out of a divison they need to move up in weight, and do it sooner rather than later. If Cotto is having problems making 147lbs, he should move up to 154lbs or shut the **** up. Boxers are also stupid for doing things like Jones, Bird, and Oscar did and moving DOWN in weight while in their mid 30's. How many fighters have to do that and get knocked the **** out before dumb boxers stop making the same mistake?

Agreed, so if he or his team feel that this would happen, don't take the fight at any weight under 147lbs. Also, if it was that ****ing hard for Cotto to make 147lbs, why did he come in at 146 against Clottey???

If he has to lose 20 pounds to make weight he's in the wrong division Einstein. Just because most boxers are morons and fight in the wrong division doesn't make it right. No fighter should have to lose more than 10 or 15 pounds to make weight. Boxers are looking for every possible advantage, and that is why they don't fight in their natural division. Cotto is a Junior Middleweight fighting at welterweight. This is a power struggle to gain the advantage, plain and simple. Cotto wants to be strong, Pac wants Cotto to be weak.

I can't make head nor tail of this post. Why are you going on about 'big fights'. We are talking about weight loss. Pac said to Roach after the Diaz fight 'we are never going back to 135'. Couple this with Pac never having moved down in weight for a fight (ignoring the DLH - Hatton transition of 2 pounds) then bang goes your first paragraph.

I agree 145 seems ok though in terms of health for Cotto but I don't agree it should actually be there.

If it for the WBO belt. 147 or no fight. If pac wants a WW title, 147 has been there for a hundred years, why should it change for him?

Most of the people that have a problem with the fight being at 145 are the floydtoys and we all know how dumb they are.

If he stripped against Clottey he'd have been 145.

Great post, it is clear you've been around boxing. It's one thing to lose one pound when you're an average person with 10% or more body fat, but when you are below 3% or 4% body fat, all the weight that you can lose is water in your muscles, once that's gone, one pound is a major challenge. The guy who wrote this thread clearly has never been around a boxing gym or the sport of boxing, he clearly just takes one pound shits and thinks "there's no reason Cotto can't do this."

Trying to explain that the reason why roach said he never would consider moving Pac back down to 135 is because there is no sense in doing so since the lack of any big fights in that division, not because of a complete weight issue.

The reason Pac never moved down in weight for fights is because there never been a reason to. He fight the biggest fights in each passing division for the majority of his career before he moved on the next, why keep going back and forth just for the hell of it? You can ignore the DLH to Hatton fight, because I agree that is irrelavent.

The belt is suppose to prove who is the best among that weight class(range), so what is wrong at picking a weight within that weight class that should be the most fair for both to meet at? When both are at equal footing it is when we can finally see who is the better fighter, not who has more advantage in weight.

Read my posts I said I fought amateur. How about addressing the fact that Cotto came in a full pound under the limit against Clottey.

Cotto is pretty muscle bound, even 2 or 3 pounds is hard to do with his frame.

Trust me, he will make 145lbs and be fine. Mosley never thought he could make 147lbs again after moving up to 154lbs, and he did it at an older age than Cotto. Mosley is very thick as well. I've met both fighters in person.
