We might be underestimating him, but only the degree to which he can make Floyd fight and force an exciting scrap. Even more so than Hatton (the last somewhat exciting fight Floyd was in), Ortiz is tough enough and determined enough to force Floyd to throw.

all it takes is one big punch with ortiz to knock floyd off his game plan and make him go defensive. i wouldn't bet on him landing it against the floyd 5 years ago but at 34 with a year out my guess is he'll have to take a few of ortiz's shots. im not so sure he can handle his power!

Underestimating?! If anything, people are OVERestimating him. Look, I like the kid a lot and I'm really happy he's getting the sickest payday of his career. I think even a Loss here for him won't hurt him TOO much, he should have a very long career ahead of him. But anyone giving him greater than a 3% chance to win the fight is out of their mind. Sorry Ortiz fans (that includes myself), but that's just the case.

All that said, I'm still gonna watch it.

Yet he still lost virtually ever round of the fight and was knocked out in comical fashion.

Hatton, for all his faults, still possessed good foot speed and at the time closed the gap as quick as anyone in the sport. Ortiz, on the other hand, isn't nearly as quick on his feet. If anything, he's a plodder. Ortiz also lacks a jab, so I don't see the connection here.

Yes. Ortiz scores an early knockdown in this fight, and makes it competitive before Floyd adjusts, in my opinion.

People are definitely underestimating Ortiz. So many of you talk about dude as if he has no boxing skill which is not true at all. His performance against Berto is causing many of you to categorize him as this brainless slugger, which is not what he is. Prior to that fight he was considered more a boxer puncher. While he doesn't have a chance in hell to outbox Floyd, the truth is he is more versatile then he is getting credit for.

I think what also is happening is people continue to just overrate Mayweather. Dude is a phenomenal talent, one of the best fighters alive, but this is a boxing match...contrary to what many believe he will get punched. Also he isn't someone with a lot of power so to think he's going to keep Ortiz, who should be bigger than him on fight night, at bay with jabs and potshots is just foolish.

I'm not calling for an upset, but I think this is a much closer, much more competitive fight than many are calling it. And please don't give me "he couldn't beat peterson, lost to Maidana, etc, etc." That is all irrelevant triangle logic that does little to accurately predict a fight outcome.

It's not about power. Floyd was able to make larger IRON CHINNED HEROES such as Mosley and Oscar honest. Ortiz doesn't even have an amazing chin.

What's being under-rated, as usual, is Mayweather's ability to punch.

People are using the Berto fight to gauge how he will fight Mayweather...

The only reason Ortiz came out like that so agressive is because he was pissed about what everyone was saying, he had no respect and wasn't gonna be pushed back he took all his agression on berto... He took risks just to be unloading on Berto, instead of being safe on the outside, he took risks and he got caught... But THE greater the RISK the bigger the Reward. In other fights he would fight hard the first half of the fight, and relax at the end, this time he went hard for 12 rounds, Ortiz is a Monster now.

Ortiz ain't no crude face forward slugger like gatti who Ortiz is being compared to, he uses boxing skills, speed and does have defense, watch his other fights... Ortiz has matured and you can't keep bringing the past as that no longer applies, Ortiz is bigger and much more mature.... who knows how he comes out for Mayweather I hope he doesn't respect him at all and just pushes him back fast, connecting big hard shots not letting him breathe.

IF an Old Mosely was able to connect on May, you bet your ass a young hungry faster and much more powerful guy than Mosely, who can push hard for 12 rounds.. you bet your ass Ortiz is gonna catch him and who knows if May who has never faced a young guy like this, close to his prime, fast, strong, and who is gonna come in heavier then him, who knows how a 24 year old coming off a 16 month lay off will handle this. He should have fought Khan as he is more safer.

Ortiz is wide open on defense and he just gets wider when he comes in like a bull. That doesn't bode well against a guy with the best check hook and pull counter in boxing.

    You have a point.

But I just think floyd has too much skill for Ortiz and it will show throughout the whole fight.

Absolutely, but I'd go further and say that Ortiz's Chin is garbage and that he's flattened before ten. Either that or his Glass Heart cracks.

Your using the Berto fight to say that.. watch a couple more recent fights of Ortiz then come back and tell us what you think.

Power is a huge factor, but there is also speed, boxing skills, and being the bigger guy.

DLH was practically done when Mayweather fought Him, he had good boxing skills, but he couldn't really pull the trigger like his younger days, YEAH he was bigger, and strong.. but he wasn't fresh like Ortiz,A young Lion like Ortiz, as fast as Ortiz...

Mosely was a ****ing Grandpa who I still can't beleive caught Mayweather with such an easy shot.

Ortiz is gonna come in 165+ outweighing Mayweather, but also with speed, power, decent boxing skills, and a Mentally of a possesed serial killer, he ain't no crude slugger, and being southpaw gives him another advantage...everyone is gonna trip out when Ortiz is gonna be connecting on a 34 year old Mayweather coming off a 16 month lay off, against one of the Most Legit WW's he has ever faced.
