If you saw him only manage a draw against Peterson, and saw him get dropped again and again by Maidana and Berto right hands... then you really shouldn't think he has much of a chance here. Nothing else indicates otherwise.

I've followed Ortiz's entire career and I'm well aware of what he brings. High pressure and a good in-game with a lot of power and it's nothing Floyd hasn't seen before from better fighters and nothing Floyd hasn't found a way to destroy before.

If you can't fight outside you can't beat Floyd because getting into range isn't easy. Ortiz has a lackadaisical jab that's going to send him right into the jaws of the straight right counter, his high volume and wide open inside punching will look good but wind up wearing him down as he's potshotted in the process, and he lacks the footwork to consistently pin Floyd on the ropes or in the corner.

No one knows how to beat Mayweather so to say that the only way to beat mayweather is to fight him on the outside is BS....and to have a ****ing Jab is just Opinion...

The way to beat Mayweather IMO i don't know, is to come at him with full power and never let him breathe, pressure his ass, and don't respect any of his shots, have a good chin, and try and weave his counters, try and not let him him lead, just come at him with combos especially when inside, and mid range..

But who knows I think Ortiz has huge chance for the Upset as that is my opinon and in boxing everyone does, so I respect yours too..

But I jus think Ortiz brings a whole different game to Mayweather and has many clear advanatages over any of Mayweathers last opponents that will make themselves evident in the ring to the people who don't want to see them now.

  5. SIZE: Ortiz will be the biggest skilled fighter Floyd has ever been in the ring with (Baldomir was slow, and not very good). Oscar was a larger guy, too, but I believe Ortiz actually fills out @ 147 bigger than Oscar did. And let us not pretend that Oscar didn't give Floyd problems in their fight. Floyd will not be able to bully or walk Ortiz down, and Ortiz' aggressiveness will allow him to utilize his size advantage to get inside and be effective should he choose to do so. Ortiz will come into this fight over 160 lbs., and Floyd will be 150 soak and wet. I expect it to play a role in this fight.

SOUTHPAW STANCE: While Floyd has obviously beaten every southpaw he has faced, he has had problems with them in the past. If Zab can have success, there's no reason for me to believe Ortiz can't. Ortiz works well behind the jab (yes, I really just said that), keeps his hands up, and generally has really good boxing fundamentals. I expect Victor to be able to land his jab--or at least set up his combos off of it-- and straight left as long as he's vigilant about doing so. Is Ortiz a great jabber? No. But, I think based on some things I've seen from him in how he uses it, he can have success. For instance, when he got the KD against Berto, he set up the combo that hurt Berto with his jab.

AGE/ACTIVITY/CONFIDENCE: Victor is in his prime, he's been active, and he's supremely confident right now. You could argue that Floyd is none of the above right now. He's older, maybe not at his best anymore, he's terribly inactive, and maybe his confidence is shot to **** as a result of him not fighting Pac and all of the negative stuff that has come with that. And let's not forget all the stuff going on outside the ring.

ORTIZ' FIGHT PLAN: Ortiz needs to come out aggressive like he has been doing. If he falls into Floyd's trap of just sitting on the outside and waiting for opportunities to open up, he's playing into Floyd's hands. I believe Ortiz needs to be aggressive the entire fight, and impose his will and size advantage on Floyd, to make him as uncomfortable as possible. Floyd likes to employ the shoulder-roll defense, and this is a perfect opportunity for Ortiz to throw right hooks and straight left hands to Floyd's left torso. Nobody ever does this, and I could never understand why. I believe Ortiz could benefit quite a bit by going to Floyd's body early and often. Get him out of his comfort zone of fighting in that defensive posture--make him think about it.

I do believe it is important for Victor to not focus on trying to land a variance of head shots on Floyd--stick to the jab and straight left, because you'll be lucky to land anything other than those shots. If he can get on the inside, then I'd say he's got a better shot at landing uppercuts, hooks, but not otherwise. I also believe it would be good for Victor to feint some in this fight. Feint the straight left, wait for Floyd to throw the counter hook, and then get at the left side of his body. Yes, I think it would bode well for Victor to lay some traps as well.

I do not believe Victor should be overly concerned about what is coming back at him in this fight. We all know what Floyd is going to do in this fight: potshot. Victor can't sweat that. He's got to expect it, and fight through it with his own offensive arsenal. If he worries about getting countered all night long, then he's already lost. He has to beat Floyd with activity, smarts, and size. Nobody ever does a good job of trying to outthink Floyd in the ring, but as I mentioned above, it would behoove Victor to lay some traps, and do some things that Floyd probably doesn't expect him to do.

Victor may be susceptible to counters, and he has obviously been down on the canvas before, but, Floyd simply does not throw wild, hard shots like Maidana and Berto. While Maidana was able to break Vic down, Floyd fights nothing like that. And while Berto was able to hurt Vic as well, Vic took it and survived. I just do not see the same kind of punching prowess coming from Floyd that would give Victor pause in this fight. I truly believe Victor is gonna be able to do what he wants to do in there so long as he plays to his strengths. I don't think Floyd's speed will bother Vic either as Berto is arguably faster than Floyd right now--although obviously not as good or as accurate with his punches. But, speed-wise, I expect Vic to be able to handle it.

And that's pretty much it. Kind of long-winded, but I wanted to share my general thoughts and I don't think I have anything else to add. I believe Victor has a real shot at victory in this fight. He just might be catching Floyd at an opportune time. He's confident, hungry, and Floyd just may be not as good as he once was. As long as the moment/event isn't too big for Victor, and he doesn't look like a deer in the headlights in the ring, this could be his chance to do the impossible.
