I was watching Fedor vs Nog and Nog throws a whole shitload of punches to the back of the head in that fight. Also, look at Overeem's stoppage of Brett Rogers at the end of this video? is that legal? [yt]liKjcfBQbcM[/yt]
illegal... but my thinking has always been a punch in the head is a punch in the head. why should it matter where its from? they say they cant defend them but they dont complain when someone gets a crucifix put on them and bombed out.
They are illegal but never gets called, so I think they should just throw that rule out. While they are at it they should allow head stomps, soccer kicks and knees to the head of downed opponents.
No, you can't allow them. Physiology makes them a dangerous technique. Your spine(which runs up to nose/eyes level) is very exposed in the area. Not to mention the way it works even light punching suck ass. Just give yourself a light punch to the back of the head and compare it with other areas. It just makes you more dizzy, w/e the reason is. And yea, they are tolerated, at the same time it's often a prime defense when you're getting your ass whooped, turn your head away.
I don't mind rabbit punches too much. One move that should be illegal is the downward front knee kick. This was discussed on sherdog a few weeks ago and I believe the kick should be illegal. Jabouin threw several in his fight this weekend which could have ended the other guy's career. You don't see many fighter's do this even though the move appears to be tolerated.
I'm all for open fighting but there HAS TO BE some rules. Rabbit punching is one of them. Punching the brain stem/spine is a bad idea. Look what happened to Mesi, McClellan etc as a possible/likely result of rabbit punches. I don't think they are tolerated. Sometimes the ref let them slide as the guy turned his head and the rabbit punch was accidental. If the foul looks blatent, then a good ref says something.
