Weight lifting doesnt mean **** i dont care what anyone says it makes you slow, and weighs you down. I train in mma with these muscle erics and these guys are gased in seconds. I believe if you want to be condtioned for fighting, all you need to do is run, do youre callisthenics for strength and stamina, and strech. All these fancy methods are just ways for pedantic vulchers to con you. Think about it joe calzaghes is alright he just trains basic and so does fedor. To me the only functional way to do weights is in circits like randy couture does, imagine a puffed up freak like jay cutler in mma guys half his size could beat him. With weights its all show and no substance.
You're an MMA fighter, you must know who BJ Penn is. He uses Crossfit for conditioning and they do weight training regularly... Saying weight training makes you slow (which it doesn't) and it weighs you down (which it doesn't) then saying Randy Couture uses weights but that's different is stupid. If you train correctly weights can be extremely effective.
GRRR im so angry right now i must post messages saying how your gay other people are or somthing on the lines of that. i had my tongue firmly in the cheek when i said it. it was a joke. dont get defencive. i just found it funny how on a thread about bodybuilder physiques somone is looking for pics. we 50/50?
sprinters dont have top make wieght. there is no point in adding 12 pounds of muscle if your only a 5'9 super middle. also sprinters are explosive runners and have a completly different body make up of a long distance runner.
If you train to get big, your muscles will tire easily since they require more oxygen. I discovered that in my arms and shoulders. I lifted heavy weights with low reps for my arms and shoulders and after a month or so, I had a hard time keeping my arms up. Then I stopped lifting for a month, and slowly the endurance in my arms returned. So yes, training to be a bodybuilder ruins you. Lifting heavy ruins you.
Why as a boxer did you train to get big? I thought this would be obvious... Again, why as a boxer would you train in this way? No, it doesn't. Maybe if you had a clue what you're talking about someone would take some notice of what you say.
I actually think that there's quite a lot of importance in the kind of skeletal structure and proportions a guy has, in determining his punching power. Just like the best swimmers have long arms, short legs, big feet, long bodies with big lungs, or sprinters tend to have long legs, shorter and smaller cores, etc etc. The movements in boxing are just as complicated and it stands to reason that certain types of body proportion will be superior for delivering maximum power.
I think movement in boxing is more dependent on style. A certain type of body will suit a certain type of style. There is more than one way to throw a left hook, a Roy Jones hook vs. a Tyson hook for example. Which is the better hook? A tall lanky person may throw the Jones hook better, a short and stocky guy may prefer Tyson style hooks. If you want to see what the best "boxing body type" is, you need to determine the best style first. Good luck with that
