Are the Guys with the Bodybuilding bodies?

    Again that is not what I was saying. I do think weights can be beneficial but I think some take it too far that's all. Boxingtactics07 did a good job in translating my rantings to English :D

    Your point on the difference between Olympic lifts and bicep curls is well taken. And sure they require lots of athletic ability especially at high weights. I just hold boxers to a higher standard, I think boxing requires more coordination than Olympic lifting. So, for most half decent boxers, coordination would not really benefit. Same goes for free runners for example, their jumps and leaps are far more demanding than lifting when it comes to coordination. That's why I said if lifts do much for your coordination you (not literally you) are pretty clumsy. Perhaps I should have added "for a boxer" or whatever. I know you use weights differently than some dork doing bicep curls.

    And you dont know **** about training. Im just stating my opinion. Ever heard of the term take it with a grain of salt? Everyone's opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. People have to find what's best for them.

    Wow, did I join a boxing forum or the pre-school debate team?

    Everybody pay ATTENTION

    -Weights can be good but avoid isolation exercises unless youve a weak link somewhere, also dont over do it, you train to fight not lift weights, 2 maybe 3 full body workouts a week is plenty (concerning strength)
    -8-12 rep range (pure hypertrophy, sarcoplasmic) can add too much mass too fast, the new muscle doesnt have time to develop alot of capillaries & such so endurance may be compromised, sarcoplasmic muscles are essentially useless to athletes
    -Low reps (1-5) develop a muscles ability to maximally contract...strength
    -High reps (15+) develop a muscles ability to produce many sub maximal contractions...endurance
    -Plyometrics help develop a muscles ability to produce force in minimal time...power
    -Olympic lifts do require alot of power and co-ordination and will aid in developing both
    -Every exercise has its place, it may not have 1 in your routine but it might in somebody elses
    -Bodyweight calisthenics can be used to develop endurance (push-ups, squats, pull-ups etc) and strength (1 arm push-ups, 1 arm pull ups, pistols etc) and power (any of the aforementioned exercises done with speed & pop)
    -Non of it matters without skill & conditioning, they come first

    Yeah ok, I don't know **** about training...

    The problem is you didn't say "in my opinion" you said "lifting heavy ruins you" We all know you don't know **** all about weight training but some new guy reading that may think different.

    This is just my opinion before someone starts an "f u" debate. I flat out disagree with the 3 days of strength only training. I don't find it necessary for this sport. I also consider ANY isolation exercises pretty much useless for boxing. The only exception IMO is training your hands. They can be trained through plate pinch holds, wrist rollers, farmers walks, knuckle pushups, towel pullups, and some sort of crushing exercise; at the end of a workout. The hands are obviously important to keep strong and healthy for a combat sport. Even if you feel you lack "bicep power" as your "weak link" it's still a waste of time to sit down and do curls. You can do bent-over-rows or pullup variations (especially towel pullups) and those two exercises transfer over to functional strength in a pulling motion AND work your biceps.

    Oh I know, 3 days is alot/too much, I just went that high to possibly have a few strength junkies shush up. 2 is lots (hence why I said MAYBE 3), in fact thats twice as much as I do myself. As for bicep curls, theyre not the only isolation exercise out there. Like you said theres hands, neck, traps, triceps, etc, etc. So did you just forget about neck or do you think its a waste of time?

    Like I said before, more people should get into the concept of periodization and planning. Then you'd have for instance the off-season to do all you lifting in, 1-2 times a week is not adequate if you want to progress much.
    If you want to maintain, that would be okay. But if that's all you do all year, then what good is it if you haven't progressed to begin with?

    I myself do most my lifting in the off-season and parts of my pre-season, but when it gets more specialized and I have two-a-days with football etc. I do very little.
    I did the same thing for boxing, periodization is all about shifting focus to cater to all your physical needs.
    You'll have very little progress if you try doing everything at once.
